How to Prime Your Scale Models Before Painting - "Airbrushing with Aaron" Episode 5 

Discussions about primers almost always center around the question of whether or not paints adhere better over a primer coat. I like that you got right to the point and discussed its primary function - providing an even surface that identifies imperfections in the finish! I mean, the debate about whether primer promotes adhesion or not is one that will never really be resolved. And one benefit you didn't mention - when brush painting, the initial coats go on much more smoothly and evenly over a primer coat, requiring less paint! 👍

I recommend black primer on all surfaces, followed by white primer from a 45 degree angle above the model as a "sun" highlight. It does a great job of adding variation when a uniform paint coat is applied subsequently.

Good video!!! I usually did NOT prime my models either before painting until about 10 years ago or so. Have discovered that the plastic of certain manufacturer's use did not hold paint properly - the paint would "crack" after awhile as it was drying on the plastic (just thought that "plastic" was "plastic"). Also, never really cleaned my models with soap/water either and kind of figured that the stuff that manufacturer's place onto heir molds (if any) may be the cause of the paint not adhering properly to the plastic or the cause of the paint cracking. Either way, decided to wash all my models, regardless of manufacturer, and use primer paint as well - seems to have corrected the problems I was experiencing - or everything could have just been me and/or my imagination.

I know this is not about priming but I have a decal question. I have an old Hasegawa 1/32 FW-190 kit and my problem is that the decals will not release from the backing paper. I have tried soaking them in very warm water for an extended time with no luck what so ever! Is there any way I can get them to release so that I can use them?

I started priming after I discovered that -in general- paint sticks better to primer than plastic. Would love to see how you are going to resolve the problem areas on the propane tank.
