I bought a new key from the dealership and they wanted alot of money to program the key, and then the remote! This is how to do it yourself. This will also work on many GM cars Chevrolet Pontiac Buick Oldsmobile.
Very helpful video!! When I bought my '09 Pontiac G8 GT new in '09 (one of the last 3 in ATL), the dealer gave me an extra fixed key. The folding and fixed keys that came with the car worked fine but I could never figure out how to get the extra key to work. For s&g I decided to search youtube for an instructional video and found this one. I put in a fresh battery (following your other video) and programmed all 3 keys and they work - took all of about 15 min.! Saved me $$$ and time vs. if I had the dealer do it.
Thanks a million got my new key from the dealer for the recall and they gave me a generic non pontiac key, got correct ones commin and this took care of the reprogramming
thnx for this instructional video..the dealership was gonna charge me 165 bux to do it. annnnd take ova an hr. i asked, 'is it somethin i can do? mayb youtube how to do it🤣' fvckin 5mins later it worx. thnx again breh
I bought a new flip key fob for my 2008 G8 on Amazon. It came without the circuit board and battery, just the shell with the key. I was planning to transfer the circuit board and battery from my current key fob to the new one. Do you think I will still need to go through the steps in this video to program them since I am using the existing electronics?
Thanks for this video.. My 2009 caprice remote nit locking/unlocking the car, and when i lock unlock the car by the key it start to beep on me until I start the engine.. I am trying to program the remote but it did not show me the "remote key" option.. My keysmith wants to charge me $120 for "trying" to fix it.. Any ideas?? Thanks again
Hello! Thanks for your video. we bought a new fob shell from amazon, programmed the new key, all the buttons and remote start worked... except the car doesn't start w key in ignition. Any suggestions?
I'm a little confused. the key that is still in the key and tumbler, do I program that key last or is it already program with the new code once I go to customizations section, and then I set up the rest of the keys correct
Yes, you program your key first. Then the remotes. It is actually two independant operations. First the keys, Then the remotes, When you do the keys use the one that already works first .Then the new key within 5 seconds and that ends the key programming part. Then do the remotes following the steps in the video. Hope this helps.
I don't know for sure..But It's pretty much the same car soooooo. I would say if it has the same computer ( Delphi , or Bosch ) I would think it will work. Hey I am curious, let me know if it works on the VE if you get a chance. Good luck with that.
I wonder if the remote programming would work on the Australian VE Commodore .. I programmed the chips but do not have option to program remote in the computer I used to program the new chips to the vehicle
Yes, Because you can't buy a blank and the chip is embedded in the plastic. Your key will come already ground. It doesn't come as a blank. You will also need your license and registration just to order it. The VIN will be what GM goes by for to access the cut for your key. You will be able to program it yourself though. That will actually save you alot of money. Best of luck with that.
Phuong Nguyen I dont know why that is...... You would think they would be the same because they are virtually the same car, but some things are different.
If I don’t have the original key fob, can I just buy a new one and program it like so? Or will the original fob be needed to be able to use the new fob?
I think it will work, but I am not sure about it. Try it .You have nothing to lose. You will definately need a key that currently works. Best of luck with it.
Unfortunately no. You will need at least 1 working key for a G8. There are other vehicles that actually require 2 working keys to make a copy. A locksmith will be less expensive than the dealer, but it will still be alot of money. Be preparred to prove you own the vehicle when you have this done. Sorry. Best of luck with it.
Thanks for replying this really helps a lot but i have one more question my fob isn't working for some reason I did everything I could but it's still not working but what if i buy a used Pontiac g8 key and take only the fob would i be able to program it with my car 🤔
The enter button is the scroll wheel on the left of the steering wheel on a G8. It scrolls but also is a push button. if you just push it in it acts as an enter button. Hope this helps.
I got mine with only one key and I had to buy a second key from the dealer. That key is 2 parts The key and the remote body, and then it has to be programmed. You can do the programming yourself by following the instructions in this video. Best of luck with it. @@andysjadafa4854
I hate to say this, but. I did that. You will get a key but not the transmitter. Just the key. And it will cost you to get it cut if I remember right that cost me like $90. After I had that one, that’s why I made another one, so that would never happen again.
