Thanks for this! I bought an absolutely enormous one that was incorrectly labeled as a ric rac cactus. It is just far too big to stay in its nursery pot and keeps falling over. Now I feel comfortable starting fresh with a bunch of fishbone cuttings!

I love the way you say “root” as “ruut” so cute! But I do have a question, can you propagate a fish one cactus from a clipping of the aerial roots?

As long as you keep a part of the leaf attached to the aerial roots, you can.

My water prorated ones have slime on them, are they rotting?

Not necessarily. It probably means you need to change your water. It’s most likely algae which naturally grows when water gets warm and is exposed to light. You will want to change your water every so often so algae does not grow.
