I was wondering how you replace the coco liner in your Rhipsalis hanger if they’re planted directly in the coco?
@desertplantsofavalon
@desertplantsofavalon Месяц назад
Hi Steve :-D some of the garden shops sell the replacement coco liners for hanging baskets, I often use a pond liner first to line the coco liner to prevent the roots from growing into the coco coir, this helps to make it easier when repotting as I can just lift the plant and the roots out of the hanging basket otherwise I have to gently tease the roots out from the coco liner, thanks so much for watching and for your wonderful comment and wishing you a fantastic plant powered Friday XXXX

Thanks for this great info! My Paradoxa has slowly been developing very dry brown patches which have had me worried. However in this video I noticed that the plant you took a cutting from has similar dry brown sections. Is this a sign of something wrong? Or is it jus part of the normal plant growth? My plant still seems to be growing a lot however the new growth is definitely thinner and longer than the older stuff. Thanks!

Hi Jessie
@gina-leecooper7561
@gina-leecooper7561 3 года назад
I was wondering if you could please do a focused video on each rhipsalis. It is such a rare houseplant and there's very few information on it online, and even less on RU-vid. I'd live to know how to take care of the one I've had for years. I am scared to repot it, it's running out of good soil. I've also noticed some unexplained breakage (so sad!): some sections just dried up causing entire limbs with branches to fall off. Do you know how to remedy this? I would be so very grateful!
@desertplantsofavalon
@desertplantsofavalon 3 года назад
Hi Gina :-D Thank you so much, yes I am planning on making a care video on each different Rhipsalis in the future, some Rhipsalis are very prone to segment die back and this happens with some of mine too, but thankfully these cacti will root really well from cuttings, here is a link to a video I have made on How to care for Epiphytic cacti including Rhipsalis, but I will be making a video especially on Rhipsalis care in the coming weeks : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Gy9bwBO-uvA.html XXXXXX

Argh you have a Prince symbol tattoo. Love. I just received two *long* Rhipsalis paradoxa cuttings, no joins, just about 2.5ft long. How would you recommend someone proceeds with long cuttings? I didn't know whether to try a mix of water and leca to keep them more stable as they root. Thanks!
@desertplantsofavalon
@desertplantsofavalon 4 года назад
Hi there :-D thats fantastic news you have got two nice long cuttings :-D yes you can definitely use water and the leca for more support or you can also cut the cuttings into more smaller cuttings and have more cuttings. When I take longer cuttings for Rhipsalis I often place them in the water and rest the length of the cuttings against a wall or on a pole with a piece of garden tie and it works really well that way, good luck with your cuttings and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

@desertplantsofavalon
@desertplantsofavalon 4 года назад
The good news is that the energy of your cutting will be going to the root system first and growing even more roots and once it has really got a good root system it will then branch out and have many leaves coming off it, this big Mother plant was a small cutting of one branch I got many years ago and now has grown into a big basket :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a safe Saturday today XXXXXX

Hi! I have this exact plant, it has medium light and I keep the soil lightly damp to dry. However all the leaves are turning brown and it doesn’t stop no matter what I do. I’m so sad I don’t know what I’m doing wrong!! Do you have any tips? I have tried a lighter place but the leaves continue to turn brown
@desertplantsofavalon
@desertplantsofavalon 3 года назад
Hi there, so sorry to hear about your Rhipsalis plant, usually when the leaves turn brown it is due to either rot or insect pests that are hiding under the leaves, if you have some of the green leaves left it may be best to take cuttings to save some of the plant, it can be difficult to say for sure what it could be caused from but double check under and between the eaves in case there are any insect pests hiding that could be damaging the leaves, Good luck with your plant, and thanks so much for watching XXXX
