A quick tutorial on how to properly set sleeves into an 18th century bodice or a Regency gown. Stick around until the end to see a reveal of my FINALLY FINISHED Regency overgown that took me EIGHT MONTHS to draft, sew and embroider by hand.
Thanks to ‪@TheKenContinuum‬ for helping me film! Check out his RU-vid channel for walking and transit videos all over Toronto and the GTA. Also check out his Instagram: / kcontinuum

Basting the sleeves instead of pinning makes the process 10x easier!! I think many folks hand sew these kind of sleeves but basting makes it way easier to machine it.

Between your wonderful hairstyle and the Regency overgown you look amazing and ready to party! So Congratulations Meghan on your hard work on your lovely gown it really paid off! It was nice you had a strong man like Ken to help, sorry I could not resist! It is so true, now a days sewing on a sleeve takes nothing as I've done it many times. Now take the time to relax, you earned it!👍👍

Watched clips of Liaisons Dangereuse and of an 18th century English lady dressing. Need your perception to identify the clothing changes posture. Those CORSETS ought to be more than enough!
@meghansandor
@meghansandor 9 месяцев назад
It’s both the stays and the gown that change posture :) stays smooth out the front of the torso and prevent slouching, while the cut of the gown and the way the sleeves are set pull the shoulders back and open up the chest to support posture
@JimMork
@JimMork 9 месяцев назад
@@meghansandor Maybe the domestic help were able to slouch. Not the "propah ladies".
@meghansandor

@@JimMork oh no, they wore stays and corsets too! :) If your employer saw you without stays on, you might have lost your job because a sign of an important household was how well-dressed and proper the help appeared to be.

@@meghansandor Seems important to me. I just searched peasant clothing of the era for men and women. Interesting how they dressed. Not the same fabrics, but some similarity in tailoring.
@meghansandor

@@JimMork pretty much! All the clothing styles were the same regardless of social status, it was just the fabrics that were different. If you were poor, you would have your clothes made from wool or linen because they were cheaper and more durable, but if you were rich then you would have your clothes made from silk or cotton, and they would be heavily decorated and embellished with expensive lace and trim.
