That will damage the wheel fender from the straps and brake the mirror. Probably best if strap to actual wheels not body panels.

Good hail protection would be some sort of rubber mat over the body, then a tight tarp over that. That thing is more for sun protection. It would Mary Poppins to a different area code in a hailstorm.

How heavy is the suction cup and how sharp are the metal rods? Would they potentially crack the glass roof in case of any mishaps?

The thing I'd worry about the most is heavy wind. If it breaks loose partially, I could see it slamming into the car repeatedly and causing damage.

The weakest part about the product is it only supports 30mph winds. Whenever we get hail we get wind gust much faster than that. What happens if it gets too much wind? It could damage your vehicle even more than potential hail would.

The safety/security strap (with cable in it) that fastens inside the car - does it have a buckle or something to tighten up the slack so that you don't have to rely on the mirror straps? Just wondering...

We get lots of hail....... but usually associated with very strong winds. I do not think that would suffice in such circumstances.

I use a Hail Proector (baked potato) and it has survived many Thunderstorms and the extreme winds (60-70+)associated with them. 1.5-2" hail has not caused any damage to protector nor vehicle! Amazing to watch how it protects in such extreme conditions. Setup....on my Toyota 4 Runner ==1 person=18 minutes. 2 person==10 minutes. Inflate time to protection==3 to 5 minutes. Easy to remove and store. If I attempted to use an umbrella then I would not only have an extreme hail damage to car bill but also would have to replace the sliding glass windows of my next door neighbor after my umbrella shot through their glass!

IN windy hail you should definitely use those straps so the whole tent wouldn't rotate. It's a little unfortunate that is not longer. It should overhang at least 5-10 inches to be effective when there are strong winds with hail. This size is probably OK for a Model 3. Also the force of the hail would be much higher while falling thousands of feet high.

The testing of this cover was a joke. Many states have heavy thunderstorms with 70+ mph winds. This is basically a no-wind, no hail, no storm, umbrella to keep the sun/heat out and maintain a cooler interior. Our recent West Texas thunderstorm had 1.5" hail falling from 30,000 feet ( NOT an 8 foot roof) and 65-75 MPH Winds. That $450.00 umbrella would have been totally flipped inside out and ruined within 2 minutes and No Warranty due to exceeding design dimensions!

Thanks for the review. An unexpected hail storm is one of my nightmare scenarios. I was looking at these a few weeks ago. It's disappointing that it doesn't provide full coverage for the S or X, but I guess it's better than nothing and will pay for itself after just one storm. What size hail hit your S and the 3?

Seems like a car cover would be more practical, can cable down if windy. Perhaps throw a blanket under if need more protection, or get a car cover specifically designed to protect from hail.

That was a ridiculous test. Gently tossing an iceball from 6 feet above is a far cry from 3" hailstone in a 30 mile an hour wind. And I'd be surprised if the structure would even stand up to the wind. Would have been nice to see a test of real weather factors. Hope you're getting paid lots.

What a commitment for making a video by using your tesla as a crash test dummy taking one for the team. Great video you guys, thx. To some this will be a waste of time, effort, money and they will never get one. You may only need it once in your life kind of thing. Then you have the others that will spend money for the just in case scenario. If you have it you will never need it group but no one will laugh when it is needed. Think about this question in the 60's. Do we build a bomb shelter for family or not. Well having it if needed is well worth any cost at that point. ;)

Is this product/video a joke? Serious question. I've had multiple cars hailed on (fortunately not my Tesla!) and it's pretty obvious that this will only cover at best 25-40% of the car's surface that would normally get damaged. Your hood, fenders, doors and more are still unprotected.

I think that this solution in useless, because it doesn’t protect the car at all. Tesla are pricy car and you should keep it protected at home. I would build a garage made of inox steel , also to avoid the sun. A 100 000+$ car need a proper protection

I got the manual version and is JUNK! With a little wind, the metal fasteners are released and the structure bends. All that is said in this video is pure and absolute CRAP!
