Just an FYI for anyone else, I had this working one day, then the next day I came back and my Local (i.e. my camera/audio from Skype) was not showing up in OBS. I tried a bunch of things, but what ended up working was to turn off NDI in Skype, then turn it back on.

It would be nice to see similar tutorial but with guest doing a screen share via Skype. If you need a 'guest' who could help recording such video with Screen Sharing + Skype + OBS, I don't mind jumping and helping to test that and be in your video :) I am going to test that myself anyway very soon.

sorry, one more: I experience changes of the single "frames/windows" of the NDi sources. I assume this is a result of a fluctuation of the internet connection. How can I control this? The skype sources are getting bigger and smaller all the time....without making any changes within skype or obs...
@ChrisSpiegl
@ChrisSpiegl 3 года назад
That is probably happening when you are connecting to different people? Sometimes it's 720p and sometimes 1080p. The best you can do is this: Right click on one of the NDI sources. Then go to Transform, Edit Transform. There, set the Bounding Box Type to "Scale to inner bounds" and then below set the "Bounding Box Size" to 1920 x 1080 if you are want to record both in Full-HD. Now the source will always be scaled to this box, if it's lower resolution it will be scaled up, if it's bigger, it'll be scaled down. Even if it's not 16x9 it will fit into this box but will show black bars. Good luck and hope all goes well 🌸.

@ChrisSpiegl
@ChrisSpiegl 3 года назад
Hey NM TV, that's not good. I am not exactly sure where your echo may be coming from but here are a few ideas: - If you are bringing yourself into OBS via NDI from Skype and also have your own mic directly in OBS then that may create an echo since skype will send an audio source for you as well. (this is only if you are adding your own camera via NDI). - I prefer to get myself into obs directly with the Video Device Input and Audio Device Input elements. - Make sure the guest has headphones or there is echo cancelation turned on. Otherwise, you may be getting an echo. - Other than that, and if it's still an issue, maybe it's a good idea to draw a diagram of where audio is going and where it's coming from so that way it may be easier to debug this problem. I hope you can figure this out and get it to working. If not, feel free to give some more details, and maybe I or somebody else can help you here. Cheers and good luck.

How do I fix audio desync? When I have 2 guests in Skype both audio feeds have both guests so I have to choose one to mute. The muted guest has audio sync issues.
@ChrisSpiegl
@ChrisSpiegl 4 года назад
That’s an interesting issue. I haven’t yet experienced this since I have not worked with two guests. I am guessing that with this setup it will be pretty hard to actually fix this. You could use the “mixed video feed” which decides for you which person is shown on the screen. Alternatively, if your goal is to record podcasts with video, maybe look I to zoom, or Zencaster? Both have options for recording multiple guests, and zencaster also is starting to have a great video call and record feature. Otherwise, in OBS, you may be able to use the video delay filter to fix the issue you are describing. Right clicking the second guest, go to effects, and add a video effect called delay or similar. I don’t have the interface in front of me so the names might be off. Cheers. Happy recording. 🤩

Hi chris, I hope you can help, I'm trying to live stream a conversation between two other people via skype, my issue is, originally i was able to speak to them without having my audio go through the stream, now its picking up every voice and not just the one from the ndi connection, any thoughts?
@ChrisSpiegl
@ChrisSpiegl 3 года назад
This seems to be very specific to your setup. A few thoughts: - Which NDI feeds do you have selected? Do you use the "active speaker" NDI stream or the individual speaker streams? - Which Audio Input Sources do you have active? Is there a Mic source that may be picking up your mic that you can disable? - Maybe you can test this by looking at the Audio Mixer and have everybody silent and then speak to see on which Audio Source you are being picked up. So that you can isolate the issue to the specific source. And maybe, hopefully, just can remove or mute that one. Let me know how it goes 🌸.

Hey Chris, thank you for this interesting video. Very helpful! My question is > how do I separate the two ndi streams for arranging them independently within my video editing software? The recorded output would still be just one file (mkv and remuxed mp4) right? Or how can I get the 2 sources as seperate files you described. Or did I miss something?
@ChrisSpiegl
@ChrisSpiegl 3 года назад
I will create a video about this process in the future but at this point I have not done that. In general: yes, you will get just one video file when putting the two NDI sources next to each other. Now, my guess is that you would want to edit that down to one recording where you cut between the two NDI sources. The way I would do that is this: Take the video file, put it into your editing program onto a timeline, then duplicate the clip the the track above so that you have the same clip twice on your timeline. Now you simply move one over so that it is showing the second NDI source. Now you can switch between the two by simply doing a cut and either removing the top clip or disable it so that it does now show up. Hope that helps, it's relatively easy and luckily does not need any transcoding. As mentioned, I will also make a video about the process. But I am not sure when that will go live. Cheers 🌸

I liked the video but I feel like you're leaving out a few steps like if OBS is using my webcam then what's Skype using?
@ChrisSpiegl
@ChrisSpiegl 3 года назад
Thanks for the thought. You can use OBS to capture both participants (yourself and the other person) via NDI. So that'd be one solution. Then the alternative would be to start a Virtual Webcam from within OBS to send the screen that you are recording back to Skype as the camera. And lastly: I can actually use the Facetime Camera for example in both Skype and OBS at the same time. Are you using Windows or macOS? Maybe it has something todo with that?

Usually that means that some part of your network is not working or the NDI feature is not activated in the Skype settings. However, I am not the developer of any of these tools and I would contact their support teams with this kind of question. Also it would be necessary for them to know which system you are using (mac, windows, etc…). Last but not least: check if you have the latest versions installed to make sure you are up to date on everything.

More specifically, I found that cropping both by 100px on both sides made one smaller even though both were set to 1280x720. I'm wondering if it's because one was coming in naturally at 720 and the other one is not.
