Thanks ever so much for putting in the time to give us this guid, My father committed suicide not long ago and This was always a project I dreamt to do with him, and now I’m on my own and doing it to keep busy during lockdown, videos like this make what’s left of my dream possible, much appreciated, all the best to you.
It is my pleasure. I’m very sorry for your loss. I am really glad my little guide has given you some help. Helping people out is why I enjoy making RU-vid videos. All the best to you too.
You're a legend I've managed to do it now after watching this 👍made it easier as well because mine is a m2r as well from same place but mines a kmxr 125
Hello, this process seems a little different now, NOVA asked me for a dating certificate, do you know anything about getting one of those or a way around this? Thanks a lot 😎
@@RGD-Audio-Repairs after this form you will need to get a v55 form to apply for the log book. I also have a video on this form if you want to check it out
Hello there , after submitting my nova application for my Yamaha YZ125 I have been asked for the following , Purchase invoice which I have Date of first registration which I am a bit confused about, should I just send a photo of my certificate of newness as this is my first time registering this bike, Year of model which is on the cert of newness 👍, Mileage and history / background of my bike, I assume mileage would go down as 0. I’m just a bit confused about history of bike and date of first registration any help would be appreciated thanks .
Hello mate, I don’t have a purchase invoice as bike is second hand is there any way round this or will I just have to contact funbikes to see if they will provide one?
Hi, you will have to make a hand written receipt with the description of the bike and your name and the sellers name and the price and date. Sign it and if possible get the seller to sign it but just send them an explanation letter to let them know the situation. There shouldn’t be any problem with it as they only want to make sure there is no tax owed on the bike
@@DarrenMcKinney1 cheers mate thank you, but only problem is the nova requires the purchase invoice number and i don’t know how to get one? Funbikes won’t give me anything as they keep coming back with the bikes are for off-road use only lol
@@firerejack1121 lol. Yeah they are not very helpful. You can still have a hand written receipt so I wouldn’t worry about that. They are very helpful in the hmrc office if you need to give them a call. Fun bikes are so bad with after sales service. I eventually got one of them to write me an email saying they didnt want to do the nova as they were for off road use and then I passed this onto the hmrc and this did the job. Try and get them to do that.
@@DarrenMcKinney1 cheers mate, just spoke to the personal transport unit HMRC and I’ve got to email them the invoice and some other bits and they should sort it all out :)
Hiya mate just wondering if you could help me I have bought another pit bike it's an m2r kmxr 125 but engine was knackered so I've bought a bran new engine so now the engine number is obviously now different will I still be able to register it with a new engine in it
Hi Cory yes you will be able to register it no problem. If you haven’t already sent it away just change the engine number on the form or if you have already sent it away as soon as you receive your tax book there is a section in it you can fill in details you want to change like the engine number etc as it’s perfectly acceptable to put in an engine of the same type as size. So just fill in the different engine number and nothing else and send it away. Job done
If it’s a Honda crf50 then you could contact Honda with the chassis number to get the certificate of newness and then you will want to have a receipt of some kind from the private seller. When you have these 2 things you can start the NOVA application
It’s actually not a proper made up plate holder I just used a bit of dexion strip you call it and bent it into a shape which I could screw the plate onto. I just used the bolts for holding on the seat and the rear bit of the subframe. You should find it in your local motorfactors as I think it’s used to make a band to go around an exhaust to hold it up on a car
Hello mate, I filled my nova form in all went well thanks to your video, then I received email with my references number and it asked me to complete more questions? Is that mandatory or can I skip it?
It depends what questions they were and they would normally say if they had to be answered or if it was like a survey sort of thing. Did they tell you you were able to go ahead and contact the Dvla now?
@@cobeelong2518 they should tell you in the email that it’s ok to go ahead and contact the DVLA right away. If not I would ring into the HMRC Nova section and ask them about it as they are very helpful and should sort it out pretty quickly for you
You are supposed to do the Nova first Stephen then when it’s all sorted they will send you an email saying you can now contact the DVLA. The Nova is basically registering your chassis number onto the system so the DVLA will recognise it.
I purchased a bike from funbikes and they have refused to give any form of receipt or proof of purchase which I assume I need for this process. (Purchased the m2r same as you) is this going to be a problem for me?
Yes this could be a problem. They have to give you an invoice as you purchased it from them so they have give you one. You don’t have an email copy from when you bought it?
Yes the NOVA is the first thing you do and once it’s complete and passed they will send you an email saying you can now contact the Dvla with the v55 form
@@DarrenMcKinney1 great, thanks for getting back to me so fast, one more question do I have to send some thing either with the nova or v55, not sure if you mentioned this in the vid, thank you so much for the help!
@@cable-ized no problem at all. Yes with the nova you will have to send an invoice with it and with the likes of fun bikes and a supplier in the uk they may get back to you and say that they should be doing the nova application as they were the original importers. In this case once I had to get funbikes to send me an email simply saying that they were unwilling to do the nova as they didnt intend the bikes to be on the road and thats all it took but id leave it til they wrote back to you first incase you dont need to. With the V55 this is a list I received from the DVLA You will need to submit the following documentation: filled in application form V55/4 (for new vehicles) or V55/5 (for used vehicles) £55 registration fee and fee for the vehicle tax (cheques or postal orders made payable to DVLA Swansea) original current British MOT Certificate (if applicable) valid insurance certificate or cover note for vehicles being registered to a Northern Ireland address(downloaded or faxed copies are acceptable, however photocopies are not) photocopies of documentation confirming your name and address If the vehicle is being registered to an individual confirmation of name (one from the list below) DVLA driving licence (photocard or paper) UK/EU or foreign passport marriage certificate birth certificate Confirmation of address (one from the list below) utility bill within the last 3 months e.g. gas, electricity water, landline telephone (valid within the last 3 months) bank/building society statement ( valid within the last 3 months) medical card council tax bill for current year Driving licence covers you for proof of name and address so I used that I hope this helps you out
@@TheHpsauce37 say to them that it doesn’t matter to them what your using the receipt for. Tell them you will talking to trading standards about them not giving you a receipt copy as they should be able to advise you what to do but hopefully it doesn’t come to that
@@DarrenMcKinney1 tried that mate. All I have is my email receipt that shows my order and how much I paid. I went to a local mot center who said they would do the mot but needed a receipt from funbikes that showed the chassis number, date of purchase, manufacturer etc. Funbike point blank refused to give me one. Mot guy said without this info he could not create the file needed to mot it for a daytime mot. I assume that's what the Nova thing is?
@@TheHpsauce37 no you won’t have to worry about mot at this point. That receipt you have from funbikes should be enough to get the nova part sorted. Are you doing the v55/4 form for new bike or v55/5 form for a used bike? I take it your bike isn’t too old?
Hi. Yeah you will need to do the nova form and because Fun bikes imported it you will have to get an email from them basically getting them to say they are not willing to do the Nova as they never intended it to be on the road. It’s just HMRC’s way of making sure there is no tax owed on the bike. This will be tricky as fun bikes aren’t the most helpful with things like this but if you get the email that’s the hard part. You will have to send a copy of it to hmrc during the application
@@DarrenMcKinney1 thanks pal, just emailed Funbikes so will how kind they are feeing, they replied and said they have passed the request on to a manager. Fingers crossed
Hello mate "You noted in your application that you were gifted this vehicle. Can you please confirm if the person who gifted you the vehicle was the original importer of the vehicle? " can you help
hello mate, i’ve got a 140 and want to put a 125 engine in it to make it road legal for me to ride on a cbt. In the make, should I still put WPB140 or should I change it to match the 125? and just register the VIN as if I bought a WPB125?
@@samm2368 it’s something which will probably be worth taking a chance on and if it fails you may just either have to send them an invoice from where you bought your engine or register it as a 140 first then change it after but I would take a chance with just filling in 125 to see how it goes
Do you know if the engine number on the NOVA and V5 needs to be the original engine number, or the current one? I've done an electric conversion on a honda CRF 250... hoping I can get it listed as 125 equivalent and electric on the V5 so tax free. Cheers if you can help!
@@MFETmusic you will be using a v55/4 form for a new vehicle. If you are in England Scotland or Wales then you can get an mot first but you don’t have to as it under 4 years old. Here in Northern Ireland we can’t even book an mot until it’s 4 years old. If you don’t have an mot on it just explain this to them and that you have fitted a Speedo and horn to comply with the regulations in your letter you will send along with the form
@@DarrenMcKinney1 thanks buddy in that case I won't even get a mot or would it make it even easier to register it if I got a mot? Do they still take months to do it all? And being a key worker would it make it quicker if I mention that these day? Thanks for the help
@@MFETmusicyour welcome. I wouldn’t bother with the mot because of It’s age. Just explain you have made the modifications to comply with the regulations. Yes mention you are a key worker and want to use it for commuting to work. Play every card you can as I’m not a key worker and it took about 2 weeks for the nova and 5 weeks for the v55 form to come back. Hopefully you get sorted soon
Hey i have a CR125 1999 model ive built up to be a supermoto, its passed an MOT, i paid for proof of ownership, is it only the V55 form completing as I am not importing the vehicle? I've been putting this off for almost 3 years. Bought the bike early 2018 and finished the build at the start of 2019. I have lights, ignition kickstand, new wheels and some lovely pirelli diablo P1's i think they were. big fat on the back and a not as beefy front wheel. Ive thought all along ive needed to do the NOVA section and someone told me i only need to do that for imports like these pit bikes for example. Can you help me here please mate? ive followed the guide on this video to help with the v55/c or whatever it is (the same for as pictured in this video. I'd be very greatful of some help from anyone with helpfu information as i dont want to send something to the DVLA only for them to send it back to me and me be none the wiser 😢 Many thanks
Did you end up sorting this mate? I’m in the same situation, not sure if I need to complete the nova form as I’m not importing my bike either so I was presuming I only needed to fill out the V55
It will be the same as registering it in the video only you will have to write 125 on the form instead of 140. Just be careful of this as if anything ever happens you could get in trouble and your insurance will be invalid
@@beano5600 no it’s generally easier on a q plate and that way you don’t have to prove when it was built as q plate is not related to any time or place. It stands for query I think
It’s just an ID problem really. Do you have a drivers licence? Even an L licence? That’s what I used as they won’t do it without proof of Identity and proof of address. I used the licence as this covers both.
@@tomosmalek1271 unless they have changed it this year. Do you mean 2 types of ID or one ID and one proof of address. When I done it you had to send either one proof of ID and one proof of address or the only item that covered both at the one time was the driving licence so that should cover it ok
Yes it is still valid Shaun you just have to fill in the details correctly. I’ve only done this example tonight and is the way you do it for any vehicle bought before 1st January 2021. Near the start of the video where it asks you is the vehicle being brought in after the 1st that’s where if you hit yes after the first you must select one of the 2 options as to wether your bringing into the uk or Northern Ireland. The rest is still the same
@@DarrenMcKinney1 ok thanks for your reply very much appreciated, il look into it tho I don’t know if there’s any point as I was thinking of registering my 2019 wpb race 140 as a 125, day if I get a yz 125 or cr 125 do I just follow the same procedures, I know getting a certificate of newness should be easier from a proper manufacturer? Cheers mate.
@@outandabout3335 you could register it as a 125 if you said you bought it from a friend and got them to just give you a hand written invoice and email them a copy although I wouldnt recommend it for a few reasons like you wouldnt be insured etc. Yeah if you get a yz125 or cr125 you just follow the same procedure but get the certificate of newness from the proper manufacturer as they will give it to you no problem for a small fee. The reason I had to do it without one is Funbikes just point blank refused to do one for me.
@@DarrenMcKinney1 brilliant thanks a lot mate, your very helpful indeed. Respect mate 👍 hmm if I get stuck in the near future I might reach out to you hopefully your still around on RU-vid making more great content for us viewers 👍
@@bradmarshall3618 ok Now this could be tricky without an invoice so if you know the previous owner I would try and get a hand written receipt with the chassis number on it and for how much you bought it for. The hmrc will be looking this just to show there isn’t any tax owed on the bike. If you cannot get this then you can either phone the hmrc nova department for advice on the matter or send off the nova first with a few notes as to explain you bought the bike 2nd hand and don’t have a proper receipt, although I would give them a call first as they are very helpful and it may save the grief of having the first application rejected.
I’m sure you could Seky but I wouldn’t recommend it at all as the police would know it wasn’t a 50 and it would also void your insurance if for any unfortunate reason you need it. So please just be careful with this incase it landed you in any trouble
