In this video, we are going to show you how to rekey, to the customer key, a Chrysler ignition. Chrysler ignitions with the sidebars are probably our third most popular ignitions to replace. Number one would be the Honda sidebar ignition. Number two would be Ford Focus, again with the sidebar problem. And number three, we find the Chryslers. This kit made by Strattec fits the Dodge Caravans and many more makes and models.
The Strattec 703719 Ignition Kit is uncoded and includes extra wafers, springs, everything you are going to need to rekey the ignition to the customer existing key.
What we're looking at today is the Strattec 703719 ignition. You'll find this fits unbelievable amount of Chrysler, Caravan and Jeep products.
The major problem is the sidebar jams, fails or seizes into the cylinder and the ignition will not turn or start the car.
The Chrysler key is cut Tip to Bow. Unlike the Fords in prevous videos all eight wafers go into the Chrysler ignition.

Excellent video! Helped me rekey the new ignition lock cylinder to my original key even though the original lock cylinder is long missing.

Terry, Thank you for this awesome video. I have a 2004 dodge caravan and the key would not move unless I loosened up the tumbler/spring or sidebar with a few small hammer taps at the key entry site. I took the old cylinder out and rekeyed it like you showed us in the video. I slid the key mechanism back into the housing but the device will not rotate to the accessory position. It will only move to the off / on positions. I tried holding down the pin and moving the cylinder counter clockwise but it wont move. Any idea what may be happening? Totally bumming out right now.

Having just used a Strattec kit to rekey a GM modular sidebar cylinder (Alero in my case) it would be great if show how to do a GM modular sidebar cylinder because they are a PITA compared to older wafer locks. There seems to be only a single video that I could find on RU-vid and no information or instructions anywhere online. Getting the old wafers out and staking the retaining clip were the worst part of that job.

When you're doing a vehicle lockout how do you know that you are opening the car for the owner and not some random person?

Locked out person has to show Drivers License before we open or make keys to any car or truck.

I wish I had watched this first. I must have had a wafer wrong and put in back in before testing and now I think I just have a useless paper weight. No way to get it back out anymore I assume? (Its not in the steering column...thank goodness)

I looked back at my old wafers and the numbers matched...but three of my 1's are labeled C1. One each printed upside down, sideways and right side up. But one of my 1's is just labeled a sideways '1'. And looking at it now it is a very odd shape. Doesnt match 1, 2, 3 or 4 of the wafers I got with my kit. Im wondering if this is some specialty wafer a locksmith used to prevent amateurs?

@@tommaertz5597 Did you ever figure this out? I am in the same situation. Watched this awesome video and put the cylinder back in the housing. The cylinder will not rotate to the accessory position and also, I can't pull it back out no matter what I do with both pins. Struggling bad here as I need my car for work.

hey! i wanna ask you something i live in germany and i want to start lockpicking (not for use of criminal things) so can you maybe search on amazon.de for me a good lock picking set preferable a small one that fits in your pocket( again not for illegal use)
