Yes, this is time consuming. This is useful when cutting out fittings is not an option. In this video we are demonstrating how to remove a cast iron lead joint, we are new to youtube and some parts seem to have gone missing during the editing process. Please leave a comment and will answer any questions you have, Thank you!

Great question Dave!! Once the lead is removed all that’s left is oakum (plant fiber soaked in oil usually, there is white oakum but it’s less common) you can pull the oakum out with needle nose pliers. That’s all that’s holding the pipe so it come right out after all the oakum is removed or likely while removing the oakum. Hope this helps!&

Why aren't you using high heat and compress air ?

It's possible to crack the cast iron with heat. I wouldn't chance it. Personally I would cut the inner pipe with a saws all in four places and knock the pieces out.

Why you just did not use a jigsaw

I don’t believe the baseplate of the jig saw is too wide work. That being said the only thing plumbers generally use jigsaws for is cutting holes in counter tops for sinks so it’s not a tool I think about using for much else...it might would work I’ve just done it this way for many years successfully. Thanks for the idea though
