Thx man, I will be swapping over to the wider Sherman rim and this vid should help me keep all 10 fingers intact.
@milordas
@milordas 6 месяцев назад
safer way to open the lid is not to hammering with flat screwdriver as you can damage the rim, but remove both sides of bolts and a little hammer to the axe, then motor stator could come out to oposite side and youre lose bearing grip. Another note, when you put the lid back, hammer with rubber hammer and do not forget to grease around the rim to seal if from water ingres

From Ewheels - Also, when installing the new rim, please ensure that the larger gap side (top in photo) is facing right, same as the motor wires. The two edges have different widths, if it is reversed, there may be motor power delivery problems as the magnets will not be correctly aligned

I'm trying to replace bearings on my Abrams, I was able to remove one cover without even a screwdrivers, just used some thick guitar pick, then with a bit of heat old bearing slid right out, new one just dropped in when pulled out of the freezer. put everything back together without much problem. Then I started the other side and immedietely got stuck trying to remove the cover.i was able to break the seal no problem, with screwdriver method you show I was able to lift cover around the edges like 3-5mm (at any point, it's not binding anywhere on edge) but bearing wont let go of axle. its just completely stuck and I dont want to damage the rim by excesively wedging those screwdrivers. any tips?
@Euc_Li_Rider
@Euc_Li_Rider 2 года назад
You have to use the two pry method. One wedge across from one another. It's a daunting process but eventually it will pry off. You may have the bearing stuck on the axle so will need to use my method to extract that as well. What side are you trying to pry off. Wire side or non-wire side.?
@Mourdraug
@Mourdraug 2 года назад
@@Euc_Li_Rider it's stuck on non wire side, and I'm doing two wedge (I even tried 4, 90 degrees from each other),been trying for 20 minutes prying in different spots but I feel like these covers in abrams are so huge they deform too much trapping the bearing inside. If I could just remove cover leaving bearing on axle it would not be a problem. I have that 3-claw bearing remover tool to remove it.
@Mourdraug
@Mourdraug 2 года назад
I was actually able to move it about 2mm up on axle by using set of evenly thick wooden wedges I made, but now I need bigger wedges to move it further D:
@Mourdraug
@Mourdraug 2 года назад
@@Euc_Li_Rider well I wasn't actually pulling out that lid, I was pulling out the entire motor from the lid on the other side >_>

Great video, but you did not mention what we can use to re-waterproof the motor drum. After opening it will inevitably make the waterproofing worse, so I would like to know how to re-seal it

I am a bit confused about the final pedal hanger tightening, is putting it in the pallet supposed to keep the hangers aligned? When I did this on my old Msuper I had the pedals into something like a workmate table to make sure they were even/parallel.
@Euc_Li_Rider
@Euc_Li_Rider 3 года назад
No these pedals should stay pretty aligned due to the axle having top and bottom flats in them. The axle is not round so after the shims go in it basically will keep its shape.. unlike some other axles where you need to monitor them for level.

Think there would be any detriment to using a washer with a slightly bigger hole or just drilling it out just a tiny fraction?
@Euc_Li_Rider
@Euc_Li_Rider 3 года назад
It's possible if it is lose it will shift while start/stopping. This washer is cut to the axle dimensions for that reason. It's tough but not impossible to take off just need some patience.

@@Euc_Li_Rider Yea my concern is damaging the threads, that thing looked extremely tight and tedious to get on, I wish we could have seen what you went through to get it off :)
@Euc_Li_Rider
@Euc_Li_Rider 3 года назад
I will showcase a short RU-vid clip on the removal soon. Have another 2 rims to get done this week. Found a better way to do it. A bit easier but not much. I wouldn't worry about damage to the threads as log as you're not smashing them directly they will be fine.

what is the size socket to use on the motor and where do i find one with that slot so i can work around the motor wires?
@liamventer
@liamventer 8 месяцев назад
24 mm or 15/16 is close enough. I used a deep offset ring spanner rather than a socket with a slot cut on it, which risks slicing your motor wires.

@Euc_Li_Rider

Have to use heat and work it around the cover. Then you'll apply some force to knock out.

I'm curious. Is there no seal between the covers and the motor?
@Euc_Li_Rider
@Euc_Li_Rider 2 года назад
Not a gasket if that's what you mean but a little glue type sealant they put in between. I use clear silicone when I'm done closing it up.
@liamventer
@liamventer 8 месяцев назад
No good putting the sealant on after you have done it up, Apply a thin smear of Three bond 1215 on the wheel face, befre installin the motor cover. Pay attention to getting it in the small grrove, @@Euc_Li_Rider
