Splendid video! Good camera work with close ups, expert advice from an (obviously) experienced professional, and Mike does a great job speaking / describing as he works! Mr. Lombardi speaks in cogent whole sentences without saying "uh" or rambling. A+++ !!!

I recently had to take apart my toilet at home to remove a large bottle cap that was stuck in the trap. This video really helped minimize the mess and any of the "mystery" about toilet installation and removal. A few quick tips: If you are going to refurbish the old toilet, buy a fresh wax ring and a new tank-to-bowl mounting kit. You'll also want a paint scraper to remove the old wax ring from 1985, the last time anybody gave a fig about what was under your toilet. Also to get out the bottle cap (or whatever) take the toilet outside, turn it on the side, and run the hose through it on full blast. It will come out.

@@tias9796 Yes. It was a little tricky to get the cap out because there wasn't space for my hand, but spraying it out with the hose worked. If you're removing the toilet it might be a good idea to have some flattened cardboard boxes hanging around to keep your floor clean. Or alternately if you have to move the toilet outside you could set it in a heavy duty moving box. Whatever works.

@@tias9796 I've been waiting six years for this. Lol. I didn't have an ... um ... organic material clog so nothing like that came out. Just water. I knew for certain what the cause of the clog was and where it was happening in the structure of the toilet, so it was a very specific case. If your clog is in the plumbing rather than the toilet you'll probably end up needing a plumber and you could get all sorts of surprises when you remove the toilet.

Some gloves please, simple protection, as a plumber myself always a scrape or tiny cut somewhere on hands or arms. I like using a vacuum to remove water.

This is a nice video and I learned a few things. One simple extra suggestion from someone who has removed a few toilets in hist day - hold the handle down until all/most of the water is out of the tank. A regular flush leaves several inches of water in the tank. Saves on some additional bailing.

Thank you for this video! We had gotten as far as loosening the bolts on the floor. The nut on one side would not loosen, because the bolt was spinning! We used a screwdriver to hold the bolt in place as shown in the video and it worked like a charm!

Thank you, so much, for posting this video. I needed to have my toilet taken up to replace the flooring and decided to do it myself. It worked out just like you demonstrated in your video, except I had to use a hacksaw to cut one of the bolts at the base. Thanks! : )

Thanks very helpful, had never pulled a toilet before today and this made it a breeze. The grout sponges like you used worked quickly and easily, quicker than emptying out my shop vac anyway.

Watched many toilet removal videos on RU-vid and this is the hands-down best demonstration video. The only thing is, I would've given A+ if Mike wore rubber gloves before handling the caustic bleach water in the very dirty toilet bowl. : O

Its a great video. It is easy to follow and I think I would be able to remove my toilet now. The only thing I would do differently is I would not pour bleach in the water, and surely would NEVER stick my hand in toilet/bleach water!

@4:42 Right on what!? I jest; with seriousness, this is a well put together "How-To". The demonstrator is clear with his explanation. I can tell that care was taken when selecting camera angles -- it really helps to see certain areas clearly. One can tell this professional takes great care with his work; from the partial pail to reduce mess to the additional tips in breaking grout seals as to not ruin tile, this How-To delivered beyond expectation. My DIY demo continues to go smoothly thanks to this video.

Thanks for providing a simple easy do it yourself solution. I have never done anything like this in my life. 23 years old and was able to do all of this by myself in about 1hr 30 mins. Turns out the reason my toilet was broken was because someone flushed plastic shot glass down the toilet during a small house party. Any way thanks again!

Great video. Two questions actually are all wax rings the same diameter, or are they universal? I would be shopping at home depot or lowes? Second queston are all wax rings equal. what i mean by that is there a superior brand or one that hold up better quality wise? Flushed a shaving cream cap accidently down the toilet. I think it might be stuck in the curvature of the toilet, if not i will have to use a electric snake to pass it out of the plumbing, and i do not want to damage the porcelain. I have never removed a toilet before and my fear was reinstalling and making sure the toilet would be correctly aligned and not leak.

Hi there... I have a quick question... We removed our toilet, but the upper part of the water reserve where you flush it, the flush button is on top of it. And it's still some way attached so I can't lift that part. What do I have to do to take that part off?

sometimes they just smash the toilet with a sledge hammer . .. if it's ancient and cemented down .. That's what my plumber did anyway :-/

I have to remove the toilet to remove the wall paper and paint the bathroom. You make this look easy, but man, I'm not looking forward to it. I want to put the same toilet back (it's a new santa rosa put in about a month ago) -- do I need new wax and seal? Thanks.
