Guessing the joists ran perpendicular to the removed load bearing wall, so you had to have the bulkhead from the RSJ instead of insetting it into the ceiling?
how did you put weight on the RSJ? I mean load is on 8 vertical pilars if rsj is not under a load the whole ceiling will move a bit after removing the pilars.
+Joe Walshe Thanks. Accrows are loaded onto the floor joists. The joists are packed with blocks below the floor boards, down to the concrete subfloor. So they wont buckle under the support. All nice and sturdy!
Hello. I have a question. I want to install lintel in my kitchen, 250 cm long. What is the minimum bearing space per side? Above the lintel has 80-90 cm of bricks.
I saw that they didn't actually support the upper portion of the brick I thought you had to support the brick above before removing the wall . They look like they only supported the ceiling in front of the walls
how did the wall above the wall you took out not fall down? you only supported the ceilings either side! ? nothing was actually under the wall above! ? .
The floor joists for the bedroom above are cut into the wall on both sides. So if you support the rafters, then they will hold up the wall above. Nice neat trick to hold up the walls. Roughly 12, 9x3 rafters on each side of the wall holding the load.
Diligent Developments how do you know that the floor joists are fitted correctly? if there is a gap then the wall above will move and crack so you will need to refurbish upstairs. or how do you know the load you are now putting onto the joists is not so much that they will lift up at the other end? sounds like a trick that can cause a lot of problems if not careful
Great job guys.....how much does it cost to take down a load bearing wall? The one i want down is the same size as this one. It's maybe a little smaller it's about 7-8 meters long. I have a house that has two doors at the front....one goes to the stairs and one goes straight to the kitchen but there's no need for the two doors lol...it's a very bad design, i think it maybe because of the days of having coal but I'm not sure. My wife is ill with cancer and I'm trying to give her the home she's always wanted but haven't got a clue how to pull this off plus it's a council property so I'm not sure if i can do it on my own i think you need a proper builder but I'm just a laborer, I've seen and done this before but i think you have to be an actual builder who knows what their doing for them to approve it. We are the only house along our street thar hasn't got this wall down yet lol....I'm in the UK. Thanks guy i really appreciate any advice and help you could give GOD bless....Lee
thank for making contact, and I wish you the best for health for your wife. The typical cost of this job was £2-3k+VAT. You can see a case study on this project here www.diligentdevelopments.co.uk/steel-beam-installation-shirley-croydon-no2-case-study-2/
Gemma R thanks so much i really appreciate it.....☺. I got quoted £700 off of a friend of the family but knew this was too good to be true lol. I thought of getting him to do it i was going to help and put in a days labour with him but i don't want the thing falling down 😂...so think it's best to get the pros in. If i was to get a few things done would I get a discount? My living and dining room are right next to eachother but there isn't a wall is one big room but you have wall each side separating the rooms if you know what i mean....😂, it's hard to explain without showing someone lol. Are you guys based in the UK? I'm in Crawley west Sussex....are you anywhere near me or do you do work in my area? Thanks for the link. You guys look very professional and make it look easy. ☺
Gemma R I just see you guys are in Croydon so that's perfect for me. Do you guys do free quotes? I would Love to get a price from your company. Thank you ☺
chelseamassiv is that too much mate.....I got a price off of these and they said about 2 and 1/2 grand......it's kind of like this but a much smaller wall.....it's a wall that's attached to a staircase in a small council house....no need for a lintel.....just take the wall down and make good.....have you got any contacts that would be better and cheaper? I'm in Crawley west Sussex.....it's need a few jobs done....this and my dinning room and living room is separated by small walls each side....you know the old school thing they did.....it's want them taken down....might need a support made for that I'm not sure if it's a supporting wall......let me know please thanks mate 🖒🖒🖒
