In this video I show a step by step on how to remove the brake booster out of a C3 Corvette. The tools you will need are a 9/16 wrench, a flat blade screw driver, an impact driver (or ratchet), flashlight, and a 1/2 inch socket with extension.
You also might want to consider the booster rod adjuster tool. I have posted a how to use it video in the link below.

I changed out mine in my 75.(yellow as well) I still have nightmares about it. I did not take my seat out. I have to admit you make it look fairly easy, but for me, all 4 nuts were a different challenge, and different combination of extensions, and swivels. There's just no room under there, not to mention lighting was a challenge too. Also, I had to remove the clutch safety switch to get to the last bolt. I was really happy when it was finally done. Great video!

You had it double hard because of the clutch pedal in the way. Automatic cars at least are a small bit easier.

Great video especially liked the tools needed and why it matters. Don't know if I'm gonna try tackling this job. Brakes fail while going about 90 on the highway, thanksful no emergency stopping necessary and both feet on pedal to barely slow down. If I try it you'll be with me the whole way, thanks

I have great respect to you that you are able to take out the brake booster!! I did that job in 1985 at Norton Air force base Ca. That job was a torture unspeakable!!!

@@jwester9828 They had a very well equipped auto crafts shop there that is where I did the job of remove and install new power brake booster on my beloved 1976 corvette. It had 4 spd holly 650 double pumper Edelbrock torker 2 intake manifold a Edelbrock torker plus cam shaft Hooker super competition headers and chevy 202 heads. That Corvette had great low end torque but pulled hard and strong up to 6500 rpm. Now i have a 1994 twin turbo 6 spd Supra and a 1992 twin turbo 5 spd acura NSX. But I am going to go back to my roots and Im shopping for a 1974 to 1976 corvette and this time Ill put a 454 in it. They all are telling me to make it an LS swap but I want a 454. I am hoping to by my corvette from Corvette Ben he fixes them up really nice.

Hi Ben, I think your a great mechanic. Great channel. Word of advice on parts. The older you get you will find that sending in an original part to get restored will be way better than the CHEAPO CHINESE parts we get nowadays. I'm 53 and have worked on cars since I was 15. As you can see by the summit (i bet a chinese part) having issues as far as fitment. I'm sure others have already chimmed in.... Just mentioning it ;)

Fairly easy for me. Didnt remove the seat. Take off lower steering column panel and drop the steering column, loosening the bolts. Long 1/4 inch extensions can get to all the bolts. Of course the hardest part was removing the moon clip. I went upside down under the dash. Patience is the key :)

Thanks, I am going through a 74 convertible 4-speed that has been in storage since the 80's. The brake reservoir had some rusty mud in it and the booster is rusty with pealing paint. It looks like I will be doing a complete brake system replacement.

Btw just to clear stuff up from the vid if you are doing this job, the forks from the last brake booster will come off and attach to new bb. If you have trouble with removing the old brake booster pin attached to the pedal, try using vice grips and move up and down until it releases itself. I found it easier to put on new bb then add pin to pedal later. If you buy the combo master and booster, you must bleed the master before install

Good luck sending it back for credit, sometimes if they see that it has been installed they won't give you credit or will charge you a re-stocking fee to cover putting some paint back on it or something. They will get you if you know what I mean. Not all the time but sometimes it can be a hassle.

Now what if I ordered a brake booster AND the master cylinder and they came assembled in the package ready to be bolted on. The brake booster has that bowed in area you talk about towards the end that might come with after market ones. Would a new brake booster and master cylinder work fine? 1980 c3 Corvette

I had my 76 Vette booster replaced at a brake shop. I took it there to fix my pedal half way before engaging problem. That didn’t fix or improve it. They replaced the original booster. There was no hiss from the old one or the new one. If the booster isn’t correct, could that be the reason it wasn’t corrected? I’ve replace the entire brake system...

Hey, Can I ask you what the part number is of the booster that you bought from Lonestar because it looks like they have more than one. And which master cylinder you recommend. This is a 1976 C3. It has manual transmission. We bought one from Corvette and mods as a one unit piece. And it looks like the wrong one that you had in there with the recessed master cylinder mounting spot. But how do you get the U joint off it where hooks up to the brake pedal it didn’t come with that and it looks like it’s riveted on to the old one? Does that come with the new brake booster from where you bought it? Thank you for your help if you see this and hopefully respond.

1:18 - Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong! Everyone knows from hundreds of years of Motors, Chilton's, and Haynes Manuals, the first step is DISCONNECT the battery. LOL I think they recommend that even for changing oil. Great video btw. I would recommend that while the booster is out, you take the vacuum reservoir tank out, test it for leaks, clean it, and paint it well. The last thing you want is to have to remove the booster to get the tank out a few years down the line because it is leaking. I know that is the old "as long as I have this off" trap, but the extra hour you spend checking, cleaning, and painting the tank will be worth it years from now.
