Thank you for this video, I am literally going to be pulling the 2.8 liter out of my 2005 Colorado today. You are right these engines used are not cheap. Took me nearly a month to find a good used engine for a fair price. This video showed me how to avoid some issues when I go to pull my engine. I am going to be leaving my ac compressor in the truck with the system still charged, I will post back if I am able to do it that way. Being mine is the 4 cylinder and I am removing the radiator I am hopeful I wont have to discharge the system and remove the compressor to get my engine out. I will also be removing the intake and exhaust manifolds before pulling my motor. Again thank you for this video.

Question when you put the new motor in did you take the old actuator camshaft actuator and crankshaft Knoxcencer out and put in a new motor or did you just reprogram a new sensor to both of Cam and crank those items I asked this question because I'm replacing the motor in my Colorado and I'm not sure I'm pretty sure you have to reprogram the camshaft actuator and crankshaft knock sensor

So I’m taking mine out 3.5 o5 Colorado, when you unbolted the bell housing. Did the tranny want to fall ? Did you hold it up with anything or left it be? As well as would it be easier to take out the radiator instead of the fan to clear it or maybe both for more room ?
@csautomotive12
@csautomotive12 Год назад
You can hold the transmission up with a stand or jack. It just more work to take the radiator out. It would give you more room to work with. I just hate taking more stuff off then I need if that makes sense. Hope that helps. If you have any others question along the way don’t be afraid to ask.

I just called the dealer the other day about a engine swap. Gm discontinued them so you have to go aftermarket or junk yard
@csautomotive12

Yeah it was one of GM’s worst ideas. So they don’t build them anymore. They are getting harder and harder to find. They also want a lot for used motors. You will probably have to find a used one. I don’t think there’s any good aftermarket one out there. You could get it rebuilt. I have heard they are very expensive to have rebuilt. Do to the fact they have two timing chains.

Ok l can make this job easier remove the green block from the fuse box and leave the harness with the engine you will have to unplug the a/c line and the wires at rh firewall leave the big ax line on engine and remove radiator this particular truck is a 4x4 so it’s a tougher job than a 2 wd if you can do it pull the cab off l have saved a days work doing that and the four doors are the most to do a cab off because of seat belt cable on bottom of rear seats and they have the most bolts but it’s easier than it sounds l have done about six of these and the 4x4 is the toughest can is better than the rear end pull

You are absolutely wrong about this engine! The Atlas is one of the best engines GM has ever made! I make a living as an auto tech, and I can tell you I don't EVER see these roll in the shop for anything other than routine maintenance! Why do you think they're hard to come by and so expensive? There's a reason for sure!
@csautomotive12
@csautomotive12 4 месяца назад
Everyone has their opinion on them for sure. Just compared to all the other vortex engine out there! This one is not at the top of that list! They are not the easiest to work on! The starter and everything else is just in bad spots. Also when you have a timing chain at the front and rear of the motor you know you have something that is way over engineered! Also I have seen so many will valve problems. The reason they’re so expensive is because they didn’t make that mean to start with. So it a supply and demanding thing. And Chevy doesn’t even make a long block for them anymore. That’s just my opinion on them. But I have heard of some people that really love them.
@Blowncapacitor84
@Blowncapacitor84 4 месяца назад
@csautomotive12 Yeah, I think the rear drives the balance shafts, which kinda stick out and are funky, lol! They are more tricky to work on, but they are actually pretty solid. Vortex dosent really classify a specific engine, just an era i guess.It seems I only work on like 1 or 2 a year, I've never had any valve related issues, but that could just be a coincidence. I think the 3.8 and 350's were some of the best from GM. But no disrespect in any way, dude! We're also a small but growing channel and wish you well, man! You're definitely getting recommended, so I suggest keep making content, and you'll be monetized in no time! But what I've found what works well is not ripping on specific engines or manufacturers because I've had people unsubscribe for it!🤣🤣🤣 people get all bent out of shape over you saying something about their crappy ecotech. I subscribed btw lol
@csautomotive12
@csautomotive12 4 месяца назад
Yeah I’m a gm guy hands down! All I’m saying is I don’t think I would want to buy one after working on them over the years. I have talked to people that have had great luck with them. What it really comes down to is how you maintain them. The problem with most cars and trucks on the road today is people don’t want to maintain them like they should. I really appreciate all the advice. I’m just trying to help people and grow my channel. I’m not out to make people mad at me. So sorry if you or anyone is taking me that way. I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and for the support. I will subscribe to your channel as well. I love to support people that are just starting out and trying to help people the best they can. Good luck out there keep up the good work.
