A step by step guide on how to remove a K03s from a 20VT 1.8T mk4 jetta or golf. This is a AWW engine on a mk2. AWD and AUM should be very similar. DIY.
this video helped me out a lot there's not to many videos out there that show how to really remove the turbos from a vw 1.8t my has the same problem with the leak but I'm just going to remove & replace with a k04 001

Thanks for the vid. My 2000 beetle 1.8 stock turbo blew and I’m replacing it with a K04. Was it easier to remove the violent and oil line with the exhaust manifold out of the way???
Thanks. This is helping me in my removal of the wastegate actuator. A 03 1.8T with 82K KM's on it. Actuator is shot. I'm at the point where I can't get to the bolt by the banjo coolant line to the turbo. Was hoping I didn't have to go this route. But, oh well. Thanks again. More likely saved me over $300 CDN in labor.

Bro this was so great, and it needed your voice to slow things down and understand what bolts and studs are being removed. Question, there is a hex bolt right below the inlet coolant pipe that appears to be leaking coolant or oil not sure. Can I replace that screw/bolt
Thanks for the vidéo. I can't access to the last 12mm bolt holding the manifold (the second one from the right underneath). It looks like my socket can't get through. Any ideas ?
I rebuilt it as it was on $60 for the rebuild kit. If your shaft isn't too bad you should be fine with marking everything with nail polish before removing. I track mine often and I have about 15k miles on mine. I didn't get the turbo balanced but Ill its an important thing to do if you want to be sure it will last.
Mac Delaney not very haha.. it should always be rebalanced in theory, about $55 + shipping to a shop (midwestturbo.com). Main reason is the turbines could have slight wear causing imbalance, might not seem like a lot but when they spin at 60,000 rpms this could cause problems like quick bearing wear, shaft wear, or turbine damage. Now saying all of that, I didnt get mine balanced and its held up so far for about 10k miles. If you decide not to get it balanced make sure you mark everything before opening it, especially where the turbine bolt is at and how far down its tightened. I use nail polish to mark everything.
I'd say about 1-2 hours. Not complicated, just have to have the tools and make sure you soak the manifold bolts because if one breaks you might be there for a few hours
Might want to mention that you need a special Allen key ratchet at the beginning of the vid.. got all the way to removing the last bracket and now cant go any further.
@@derricksarazin6582 Guys soak the bolts in penetrating oil be it home-made concoctions or PB blaster etc, moderately soak the studs and any bolts for a few hours or overnight if necessary. From underneath the car using a socket ratchet w/ a long extension, a socket swivel, and a short-sized breaker bar, that's all I used and my MK4 Gti had 200k miles on it when I swapped out the original turbo, the studs came off but they get replaced anyway. And altho this great video is short this takes a LOT longer than a few minutes and you should know your way around your car, but definitely doable in a day w/o the need for power tools. As long as your car is securely lifted on ramps or jack stands everything can be accessed accordingly with the proper hand tools, time and patience.

Blew the turbo on my Audi, bought a maxpeedingrods turbo and all new turbo oil feed and drain lines, all turbo gaskets and washers, intake manifold and throttle body gaskets, will be redoing all the vacuum lines at the same time too. My car has been down for a month and a half now due to waiting on parts. So make sure you do everything correctly

Dang - I take it you have to take the exhaust manifold off? i.e. I nearly have the turbo out but cant get to the collant banjo bolt that connects to the turbo. Is exhaust manifold removal a must
great video. Just had my turbo redone but i had someone else take it out and i have to put it back. Which way round do the gaskets go at the top (triangular shape) and at the bottom, (exhaust to turbo)? they seem to have a raised ridge all the way round on ine side of the gaskets, Do these face inwards or outwards? thanks
Video is exceptionally misleading, Lol, if you think it will take less than 15 minutes you're in for an unpleasant surprise! Great vid btw, but for you first timers plan at least a full day or even a weekend just to be safe and not sorry.
VF28WWE I belive I used a short swivel extenstion and a bendable ratchet. That one was a PITA but you should have just enough room to get a socket on the nut with your hand and then put the extention kinda in there, enough to turn it and loosen it.
