Yeah you are right that's y l like this guy he's top of line very professional explanation he's one of the best on RU-vid ..always professional. He explains Step by step. Good job 👏
The way you explain things and the step-by-step procedure and why you do things the way you do when building is extremely helpful for me. Grateful for your video's!
I got my garage door opener up, thanks to Shannon. Next, is windows and siding. Both, I've learned to do watching HouseImprovements videos. I love this channel!!!
I guess I can say...you are my new and only mentor! Ive learned from your drywall, windows, and siding videos! Nobody else on RU-vid explains every little detail simply like you my friend!!! Just want to say thanks for taking the time for these How To videos!!!
if you don't have a fancy dandy siding removal removal tool a paint can opener works the same way (a buck/free vs $10 for the siding tool), use it where the locking channels clip in, once you get it started you can generally ease each piece off by working your way along the edge to unsnap the joining clips. After the first couple of rows are off and you remove the nails the pieces can be gently levered off by hand (if your saving them to reinstall) by pushing down and towards you, even by giving a little love tap now and again to unsnap them from each other. I use my claw hammer to carefully wedge them apart by pushing behind the loose piece. As Shannon says "Whatever works" really.
Thanks, just finishing up my first DIY standing seam metal roof. Wanted to get some siding off a covered patio so I can make it something special and cozy. Our winters are long, wet and just barely above freezing. Can't stand being cooped up all winter.
This looks good. Someone put vinyl on the gables of my house and I'd like to restore it to the original siding. Thanks for the quick introduction and no music. Way to go!
Very appreciated, I've never had experience with vinyl siding, there is no sheathing under a 8x8 section in mine, no house wrap due to rot and damage. I needed to get in there to fix and I'm trying to keep as much of the siding as possible..
I would love to see a video on the complete removal of siding, and repair of original siding to facilitate having a historic home going back to its original state before the siding was ever installed. I understand why some people opt for siding, but for me it does not belong on a quaint older home. And I'm sure there are tips and tricks to make the home look like it did when it was first built.
I live in the desert were the sun dries the vinyl. If you’re not worried about aesthetics or repair use a flat prybar in the middle layer. Separate the upper layers by pounding upwards on the vinyl to loosen them. Use the flat end of the prybar to rip up the bottom layers. I have found this to be the most useful way of removal. Always wear a filter mask, goggles, and gloves. This is a breeding place for spiders and dust
My BIG problem is they did not install Dura Foam, Nothing. They installed the siding directly on the exterior concrete, can I remove it like you show, then install the Dura foam installation, it is freezing in the winter. Then can I Reinstall the Siding? Thank-you so much in advance you are a real lifesaver! HouseImprovements Man ❤️🙏
This video does not warn you but never try to remove vinyl siding when your siding is very old or in cold temperatures as it will crack. Wait for luke warm, warm temperatures. And make sure you maintain your vinyl siding to make it last longer!
Did the project as you said and it worked great, did crack a corner J channel a little trying to pull it off but no worries i put it back with some silicone sealer...lol
Fastest way: unlock the bottom pieces from the starter and pull the siding from the bottom straight up, kind of like a very skinny U. With some good force the siding should stay locked to each other but the nails will rip out from the upwards force. Rip out a whole wall in minutes by just popping out the bottom and pulling straight up.
Yes, Kudos. I want to marry you! I bought windows thinking I could teach myself how to do this and was stumped by how to get the outer aluminum window out. You saved me from going nuts ;) Thanks.
Thanks for the video on how to remove vinyl siding. Any guidance on how to screen in a covered patio with two existing walls covered with vinyl siding? I’m wondering how to butt a 2x4 against a wall covered with vinyl siding. Thanks
Use a good foam tape that is 1" thick and stick it on the 2x4 , then put 2x4 against siding and let foam tape form to the profiles to close the gaps. It may not be 100%water proof but it will keep the bugs out
@@HouseImprovements would you recommend the same for a lean to greenhouse? I'm concerned the temperature difference on either side of the glass will make the siding warp.
I'm looking to remove siding, install new insulation, new sheathing and house wrap. Can vinyl siding be removed and then reinstalled for such a project?
I’m replacing some plywood backing behind the siding that was exposed during an ice storm that pulled an awning away from the wall. Any advice or need to know aspects of this task. Also the customer has a brick wall and in the top corner of the window there is a brick made of caulk that has started turning black any advice on what to put in its place or a way to build it back in a manner that will be more resistant
Thanks from Victoria BC Canada. How would you start from under the gable? I only want to remove some pecies to pull my sliding door out by removing the nails from the flange. But if I have to start from the top near the soffits, that means taking the whole side off from the house, cause the sliding door is under the gable. Please advise.
Can that tool be used to simply lift one vinyl piece up to get behind it? I bought a ring doorbell but my doorbell wire position is to low. Which leaves my stairs railing blocking the entire stairway you can only see people once they are almost all the way upstairs. Can I use this tool to lift one up to relocate the wire a little higher up behind the siding?
This was great but I just need to remove the first row of siding and j channl at the bottom to fully paint and caulk our porch floor right to the original wall. Any suggestions ? I don't want to remove all the siding from top to bottom.
It would be a good idea to remove and replace it. If its tucked in around the windows and doors just cut it leaving 6" to 8 " to seal the new stuff to.
Hey man question can replace vinyl siding in a house with hardi siding and i have to change something when i remove vinyl siding? Thank you i hope you answer
how should I go about replacing just two pieces between a door and a window that's between corner caps? do I need remove the very top one to get to the middle or is there another way?
