Jason if that works that would be great! faster & cheaper. I would definitely try that first. On my Jeep and a couple of friends also. We all really needed a switch which fixed the problem for us anyway. Jeeps can be kinda electrical nightmares as they get older. I have no doubt the failure could result from various places. I do know that once you have to wiggle push or pull on knobs to make your lights work, your switch is probably bad or on its way out.
After watching the video, I unplugged and reseated the connector which seems to have done the trick. I can't duplicate the issue so it seems there wasn't a solid connection somewhere. The only minor issue with this switch now is the indicator lights within the switch housing go on/off if I tap it which I can live without (The Fog LED works fine and not affected) Thanks!
I could also push the switch to briefly halt the flicker. Fuses are intentionally the weakest link in fused circuits, 1st to fail and 1st place to check. The dilemma with car elec. problems is they cause worst outcome fear, like a burnt wiring harness at $1500 just to buy. All elec. failures are weakest link by normal heat melting of thin metal that's designed to eventually fail, defect or negligent wiring.
My instrument cluster began to go dim and then bright flickering... then when I put the dimmer switch all the way on high there was a high pitched beep, a tiny red light came on ... on the dash by the windshield above the cluster then ALL the gauges went DEAD! I then put the dimmer switch back down to the middle and the lights came back on on the cluster and the gauges came back... What do you think is going on with that?
Well. The jeeps are all a bit of a challenge electronically. When my Jeep started messing up like that I was able to put switches in different positions , and it would stop for a while, but it would always start the flickering again. In my Jeep the new switch fixed it. I am not sure about the buzzer and the dead gauges though. That didnt happen to mine. Anyway. Best of luck with it,
Mark my light switch did the same thing. If you twisted, pushed, or pulled the switch it would temporarily fix it. Before you buy a new switch try cleaning the connections to the current switch. If messing with your knobs affects your lights I would guess your switch is bad. Its a common problem with the Jeeps. I used Parts geek .com $68 .Dont buy from a salvage yard like I did the first time You will be buying another old worn out switch. Anyway good luck with that.
Save the money. Take out the switch, take off that back white panel of the switch after pulling off the knob for the leadlight selector and the knob for the interior brightness....pull out that green board and resolder the joints on the back. Relinstall, problem fixed.
I've been having issues with this switch. The interior lights aren't flickering, but rather the green fog lamps indicator LED and the actual fog lights were periodically going on/off. If I either slide the dimmer switch, or put some slight clockwise torque on the (already on)headlight switch, it seems to temporally correct it. Thanks for making this video, at least now I know how to replace it. Can you tell me how much it cost and where to get it? I'd like to go with an aftermarket if possible.
If your gauge lights are flickering it is at least possible. I would check to see if the plug is plugged into your headlight switch securely before buying anything. Jeeps unfortunately can have many different electrical problems so it may just be a loose wire somewhere. If your gauges are not flickering its probably not your light switch. If it is your gauges it is pretty common to have a light switch go bad.Make sure your fuses are clean and secure also. Good luck with that.
Just replaced mine about a month ago- bought a switch on ebay for about 80.00.Yeah that flickering gets annoying and I could here it clicking which isn't good.
00:33s, alleging that the headlight switch is the reason for dash light flickering (thus replacing with new will solve the problem), is substantially inaccurate, and by no means to doubt or question lastmoto777's sincerity. In 99/100 cases the dash flickers because fuse #17 has deteriorated. Easy fix. Pop open the fuse box and replace the bad fuse.
