The foam strip is supposed to go on the evaporator to help seal it so the air is forced to flow through the core and not around it.

Someone used duct tape and did a hack job on my fox . Cut a lot of the plastic off the evaporator box cover . Is there a reason it’s sealed ? I was thinking of just putting duct ape again . Thanks ed

could you possibly cut the front of the dash and pull evaporator back toward the interior without removing the hvac box? getting the hvac box out is the big pain- dont care how it looks inside

You forgot the foam on the evaporator thst is to help seal and support it🤦‍♂️

Should have just unscrewed the housing that hds the blower motor. Its 2 svrews and off it vkmes snd out of the way lol🤦‍♂️

Not sure why someone would butcher it up like that. Just did one today, didn't cut anything.

Ford actually put those little channels in there as a guide to cut open with a cutoff wheel to get the evap out,the only other way i can see would be to split the case but 99.9 % of them have this glue thats beyond stout,you will break the case before it comes apart,granted the op did kind of a rough job due to not having the best tools available to him, this happens sometimes, been there done that. I have done a few with a 3 inch real skinny cutoff wheel and i took my sweet time and it came out pretty nice,that foam has to come off somehow to give you the most space available to do the job, the cleaner the cut the better of it will seal, so please share with us if you have a way to do it without cutting anything, you would be doing the Mustang community a huge favor,we dont even need a video , just a brief description will do, thank you.

@@dntlss I've replaced the heater core in my '79 twice. Bought a later (after '85) a/c box, replaced the heater core and evaporator and installed it in my '79. Last month, replaced both cores on my brother's '85 GT. Never had to cut anything to separate the case halves.

@@kat5168 The 87-93 box is glued together at the factory. The 79-86 box has clips so you can split the case easily. The channels are there to use a cut off wheel to access the core.

@@shroomhauler you can see ford wants you to buy the whole housing with evaporator for $1000- it was better the old way
