Oh @angela those online systems are really only helpful when things are all one way. You have a unique situation - probably best to go to the office and sort it out with a real person.

I don’t understand how it would matter any way since I already had a SNN number issued. All I wanted was a replacement card which could be done using my identity and immigration documents.

Hi @OfficialJayRandom you are assigned one ssn and it cannot be changed. A crime using a ssn would be an identify theft situation and you would be the victim so it would not impact your reporting in that way. We will do another video. Thanks for the great question!

HI @Anne Make sure you report the loss of any credit cards etc and then apply for a new ssn- should not be a big deal. Then check your credit report regularly. Sorry this happened.

If you have an ID that fits the rules then that should work- and please do not send any originals. Some can also be submitted online.

@@FinelyRevealed I found a website that says that I don’t need any identification to get a birth certificate and with the birth certificate I can get the other two but I don’t know if this website is legit. But they also want $50-$112 which I’m not able to do so I’m not sure what’s going to happen. My vehicle is broke down in the parking lot of my work and I need to get that fixed first which is going to cost me about $4500 considering I have absolutely no money it’s going to take a very long time about five months before I can get that fixed. But then I’m not sure how I’m going to get my Covid shots because apparently I need to have my ID in order to do it.

Honestly I’m about ready to give up on everything it’s not worth trying to do live in this country anymore

Hi @Fur If your parent(s) applied for you they may have a copy- if you ever worked that employer has the info. Make sure you really had one assigned. If not then you can apply when you are ready to work.

Hi @Byron As you are a minor ask your Mom to help- SS is not required to take your driving test- so do that and you will have a photo ID if you don't have a passport. The driving ID and birth certificate should get you the replacement.

@@FinelyRevealed thankyou, but the thing is that my permit was inside the wallet and im sure my stepmom took it since after speaking with my dad about it he told me that his silver chain went missing but thats another story. Heres my situation. No Id Or permit, i just have the paperwork to take the test and the driving hours log. I have found my social so what i do have is SOCIAL, DRIVING HOURS LOG, GREEN PAPER TO TAKE TEST (Im in Texas), AND PASSPORT. Your numbers are unique to you - they will find your numbers if you bring in your id.

You will just take your birth certificate into the office to request a duplicate be issued.

Hi @Cameron. Every person should regularly check their credit report - that is the best way to know what is going on. It shows not only your credit that is assigned to you but also inquiries - that way you know what companies were checking your credit and if you did not authorize that check then it indicates someone else was borrowing your information.

It is not magic in that way - but you should order a replacement because that indicates that you have lost your original one and will be a good record as to the time htat happened. Then you should be sure to get your free credit report - you can order one for free every year. Check it and make sure the accounts on there are yours. Thank for the great question.

Hi @xoMikey - you can try calling them. It takes a week or so to receive the replacement depending upon the workload of the office you contacted - so don't be overly concerned if it has just been a little while.

Hi @angela you should also take your immigration papers - work visa/ green card.

You'll need a medical record of any sort from the hospital you went to then you bring that and your birthcitificate to the ssa to get your social security card then bring ur ssn card n birth to dmv to get i.d or license

Hi @kimoraX No - The original number you are assigned is the number that you keep throughout your lifetime.

Birth cert or cert of live birth can be ordered- certified duplicate. There are other/state ids with pictures that can be obtained if you do not drive Or with the birth cert you can get a passport.

Hi Jillian- if you can get a social security card in your old state then you can move everything to the new state. Or you can use your birth cert and a passport in the new state to get the SSN .

Hi @Justice Your parents will need to obtain duplicates of your original birth records and if they obtained a social security card for you then apply to get a duplicate or help you apply for the first time if that was not done before.

HI @Kelly Adults aged 18 and over may request a replacement online but for children (under 18) the parent needs to apply and it usually is done in person- check with your local office to be sure.

Hi @Chris - check your credit report if you are worried about identity theft - everyone should do this once a year at least - and yo u can do it for free. . Also you can request a report from social security to show the earnings reported for you.

Hi @anonymous the state ID might work as a photo id in place of a driver's license or passport - to avoid waiting see if you can call and ask them before you go over to the office.

HI @Roy - great question. The application is available online for a replacement card- they don't actually let you submit it online. To submit the application you can mail it in OR go to your local social security office.

@@FinelyRevealed I went online to the website and went through the process for a replacement card and they sent a email that said my request was submitted and to expect another email for confirmation.I never received it so I called the toll free number and they said it would take 4 to 6 weeks but I need it sooner because I'm applying for a Grant and they need a physical social security card is there anyway to get it faster other than going into office directly???

Sorry - the fastest way is to go to the office. Mine came in a week. For the grant - ask if you can provide some other verification- if you have a social security earnings statement or a copy of the top of the first page of your last tax return or a copy of your last w-2 (with all info showing except earnings blacked out)

Hi @Shruthi - sorry for your trouble but agree - do not mail original documents. FedEx would be the only way I would recommend sending anything that important and require a signature. However that means someone would have to be available to sign and it sounds like they are telling you no one is at the office so their suggestion to mail is not a good one. Social Security is a federal registration so you are not required to deal with your local office. If one of your nearby states is more 'open' you could check with them and see if their offices are taking appointments where you can visit in person. Most of the restrictions seem tied to the election so you could wait until mid-November and it could be easier then. Having the card is not a necessity- you know your number and that is all you need.

CC LOYAL this whole thing is exactly what happened to me the other day and I’m also 19 I do remember ssn tho. I already got my debt card I just have to get my ssn and drivers license don’t panic though just make sure the irs knows it’s missing so they can keep an eye out for identify theft.

But I’m in the military so I’m in California and I lost it here and my home is Illinois so I have to fly back using my military Id to see my family and so I can get a new Illinois driver license so I can get my ssn but it’s ok it all can be replaced and once you get it replaced you’ll forget it was even stolen

Hi @CC sorry for your situation. Please don't freak out- you can get a replacement driver's license from your state agency. For your social security number you have your w-4 that you gave to your employer and your state and federal tax returns which contain that information as well as the signature card at your bank where you have a bank account. Just go and get a copy and then get your social security card replaced. Order your free credit report online now and then do that again in a few months to see if anyone has used your information- or tried to use it. Check all bank statements and credit card statements carefully and report any errors. Good luck!

First ... in the future..do not take your ss card with you. Keep it in a safe place at home. Only take it with you when you will actually need to use it.
