How to Replace Mode Door Actuator 2009-2014 Ford F-150

I just did this little job and it was not bad. Here are some things that might help others do this job a little easier. I removed the gas pedal first thing so I could get a socket and ratchet in there to remove the bolts. Once I removed the old actuator I placed the new one right beside to nothe the orientation of the gear. One thing you did not cover is that moving the gear by hand is impossible so heres what I did: i plugged in the new actuator and set my mode to the cabin and feet mode. Once it reached the orientation the same as the old one, I quickly unplugged it. Checked one more time that the new one matched the old ones orientation. It went right in and I bolted it back up. Proceeded to tighten the screws and put the gas pedal back on. Works better than ever now. This video helped me so much and thank you. Just wanted to share my experience and maybe help someone else trying to perform this job.

I was able to get the top screw using an extension on a long handle ratchet and going between the gas and the steering colum.

Dude you rock, this video just saved me over $1000.00, dealerships are out of control. I have a 2014 Raptor it took me about an hour to complete with clean up. I'm 6'2' and 260 so this would have been a biatchhhhhhhhhhh if I did not disconnect the driver seat(This is what made it so easy and quick). I removed the (4) seat bolts with a 15mm socket and 3 inch extension. There are (2) harness connections under the seat. They have tabs that lock the arm down on the harness connection(power and ac seats). They disengage easily by pushing them back so if you are having issues the lock tab is not pushed down enough. Slide the seat back if you have a crew cab. Remove the trim piece just as he described. Remove the (3) 13 mm bolts to free up the gas pedal and push it over out of the way. Then I laid on my back and disconnected the harness just he described. Disconnect the old actuator with the 8mm socket then installed the new one There are arrows on mine for gear gap alignment. It did not want to seat properly at first and I remember seeing the control arm(small silver rod) moved down a little so I pushed it up enough so the gears would align so it would seat properly. I do have a compressor and air tools which saved a lot of time. If you are using a ratchet or wrench it will take a couple of hours and you will definitely need some form of breaker bar for the seat bolts.

These instructions are for the mode door actuator and not the blend door actuator (in the center console area). For a 2013, the Motorcraft part number is YH-1881 for the *mode door* actuator. It looks very similar to the *blend door* actuator (and may be the same), but they have different part numbers

Worked perfect for my ‘14 f150xlt thanks! Taking the pas pedal off the floor was just what I needed. Not a comfortable (human body wise 🤪) fix, but got it done

What if the gear splines do not line up the same?

Awesome video. But two things not addressed. 1) On single cab F150 with a small rachet no problems getting to the screws. 2) The splines dont match. This is how I did it. Dont know if its the right way but it works. Hook up the Actuator and put one screw to hol. Turn on the air or heat push in the spline and it will move push all the way in when it aligns.

Do u have to remove the fuse for this before you begin?

I bought a truck that doesn’t have the mode door actuator at all! Also the mounting screws are missing. I can buy the actuator but screws are not included. Does anyone know what size 8mm screws I need?

If u just lay on your back you don't have to remove the gas paddle

This video is NOT for the flow through center console! Take a look how he's replacing the actuator! The shifter is on the steering column! My truck has a center console this is very misleading!
