Was about to give up when I pulled the actuator and the motor seemed to work fine. Then I listed to your video and heard you state that yours was working fine but fixed the problem with a replacement. I did the same with a success. I appreciate you sharing and keeping me from going down the wrong rabbit hole. Thank you!!!
Great video Josh. This cleared things up for me. I wanted to know what actuator I need to replace before ordering one. It was interesting to hear what the other actuators control. Also pretty cool to see them in action after you had the new one installed. Thank you!!
I'm having almost the same issue. My actuator will switch over to defrost / face / feet / etc. but it clicks extremely loud. Thanks for the video, I'm relieved I don't have to open the dash at all like the other actuators require.
Great Video, most videos are for heat blend door, I have this same problem, so happy I'm not taking the dash apart for heat blend door!!! You should change the title of this video and you will probably get a ton of more hits!!! THANK YOU, maybe AC Dash, defrost, floor mode actuator. Just trying to help!!! Thanks again
Very well explained video. I just learned how to fix my F150 defrost issues. Thank you. Great video and Great content. Excellent walk thru repair. Five Star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ video!👍
Absolutely one of the best video ever on the subject. You will never believe what they want to change that on my 2011.....They call for pulling the dash.
OMG!!! As an older (60) divorced woman who works full time and runs a mini-ranch, I have become pretty self-sufficient. I had the Mode door actuator go out on my 2010 Nissan Titan 4 years ago, and went to RU-vid, found a video, which I watched a couple of times, bought the part at OReilys Auto, and installed it. Fast forward to today, and now own a 2014 Ford F150 Lariat that I bought two years ago, and lo and behold, I heard the familiar clicking again... I found your video, and had a case of déjà vu. Confirmed what I thought was wrong. I LOVED how simply you explained how to change it out! I am hoping that the part number was the number on the back side of that new Mode actuator you installed (I took a screen shot...it was 2238202). I plan to hit OReily's again tomorrow for the new actuator, and I will once again be head-first under the steering wheel changing it. Just know that if I had not done this before on a different truck, your video still would have empowered me to change it by myself on my Ford F150. Thank you for your simple, no nonsense instructions!
You answered so many questions I had with this video, i was getting so confused at the parts store with the actuators as I didn't know there was also a mode door actuator. My blend door actuator had broken, but this helps clear it up so much!
Great video. Anyone seeing this first before removing actuator, it's super easy to get to if you move the gas pedal. 3 13mm bolts and you can just move the pedal out of the way to get to the 2 8mm bolts. Super easy and saves so much time.
Worth a note that depending on the model of the truck there can be two blend doors, one behind the radio and one on the transmission hump. My air is blowing only cold on the driver side, so I need to get to the blender on the hump. I may also do the mode one as well since at times when the system is off it will randomly let outside air blow, which from what I found can also be a bad mode actuator as well.
Excellent video! Spent 10yrs, many yrs ago... in and under dashes doing car audio and alarms, had to be twisty! That must be my problem, hot/cold works, can't really tell about the farm door, guess it's working. It just doesn't want to go to vents only today so that must be it, fine job! If I could of filmed all the dashboards I took out in the 80s and 90s and circulated it I'd be rich! Everything use to be cable or vacuum operated. I'm cable door old
Hahaha! Thanks for the comment!! I know the feeling. I have owned old trucks my whole life. Newest being a 99. I love the old cable operated stuff. Way simpler. However push of a button instead of slide of a toggle you have your heat displaced differently.
@@Schneids15 so that's the blend door... not temp door I'm thinking, my temp works fine. Can't believe they're only $17. Got a Mac mini 1/4in air drive ratchet 36yrs ago, still works almost as well as a cheaper northern 3/8, great for tight spots like that. Still use my 60gal Sanborn just as old. Shit isn't built like it use to be. Dobbs tire put a generic thermostat in it that had the fans running full time, the motorcraft has a jiggle valve that must be used, now runs as should. Guy thought it ran to hot after new water pump, I knew that and haggled 3 grand off price, been a great truck, has the Coyote.
My 2019 F150 has a loud rhythmic clicking noise (almost like a blinker but much louder) and it is coming from under the steering column. It seems to come on and go off randomly throughout a drive even when I don’t change temp settings. Sounds like this might be my problem but I have yet to get on the floor and narrow down exactly where it comes from.
Hello brother, great video. All my actuators seem to be working as all the functions you listed are still in working operation, but I am experiencing a loud clicking sound when first turning on my truck, seemingly from high behind the dash
I was having a similar issue. Upon looking at mode door actuator I noticed I don't have that rod? I'm just curious where mine went? Do you know if my 2013 f150 lariat should have it?
FYI; This part has a few names to it. Anywho, for my 2014 F150 without dual zone control; “Duct Actuator Door Motor” Motorcraft 8L8Z-19E616-C. Another number used for the same part is; YH1881. Currently $39.99 at Ford website. And, $31.09 on Amazon through a Ford dealer.
Not sure if you will have an answer for this or not BUT- I have the exact same problem you had. Air is stuck on the face/panel and will not switch to feet or defrost. My actuator never clicked, but I suspected it to be the issue (I own another ford that has had similar problems). Before finding this video I got a new actuator, installed it correctly, but I’m still having the issue. I went under to determine that the white arm doors are moving when I switch air modes and they do seem to be moving as they should. Any idea what the issue might be?
@@Schneids15 update- metal rod was hooked up correctly. Mode doors are operating correctly from what I can see. I pulled the rod loose, disconnected the new actuator and verified that the mode doors are moving freely. If the actuator works and the mode doors are not stuck, I’m guessing I will have to pull the whole dash apart to see if the vent doors are opening and closing freely. I was hoping to find an answer without doing that, but unfortunately havnt yet. Thank you for the great video and the help!
@@mitchelldale7207 hmmmm. I can’t say i know off hand what to say. I have heard of foam falling. My best suggestion would be to put a inspection cam through the vents but i don’t know if that could help.
@@mitchelldale7207 did you find the fix. I’m having exact same issue. Everything moves fine and replaced actuator . Still can’t change from vents to defrost. I’m wondering if it’s the hvac controller. Any ideas?
@bigcbee I'm having same issue. I can manually move it and nothing changes. But I did notice that I don't have the metal rod on the white know sticking out. Just curious if you have found a fix or have any suggestions.
You probably need a new blower motor. I had to change mine out about two years ago and it was actually easier than this. It’s on the passenger floorboard if you have the same f150. If the fans won’t turn the motor is probably bad. Or check the fuses and see if there is a blower motor fuse and it maybe blown.
I have changed the exactly actuator and when a switch to heating, the driver’s side is warm and it’s is working fine with the other vents. I have changed the one behind the radio too. It’s still warm on the driver’s side. Any suggestions?
Blend motor door aint movin(actuators suck and will continue to break I suggest manually cutting hole on airhandler behind the glove box and making it move yourself.). 09-14 guarantee failure.
