Just did this last night, no need to remove the intake. I used a spark plug socket with a swivel, made the install go much better. By the way did not drop the plugs down the hole. Load each one in the socket and slowly lower them down and screw them in hand tight to start. Outside of that this video is pretty good.
@tedberg1635
@tedberg1635 3 года назад
If you don't use a swivel there probably wouldn't be enough clearance to remove and replace with plugs in socket.
@vstar7196

You’re full of shit. Just did my plugs. The back right side (passenger side) plug can’t be accessed unless the intake manifold is removed. In fact, you can’t even see the plug unless the intake is moved aside.

@@vstar7196 3” extension with a magnetic plug socket for the back plugs. I had to connect/disconnect the socket from the extension for the last two during the removal/install which was a tiny bit tricky to finesse for clearance, but it was still quick and easier than removing the plenum. You don’t need to see the spark plugs as long as you’re careful placing them in and threading.

I watched this video several times just to be sure I had everything I needed before I started the job. Somehow I missed the detail of a 6" extension, so I did need to run to the store for that in order to get the back 3 plugs out. I had a 10" and a 3" on hand, but the 6" was necessary for the back. Great video and you saved me a lot of time and cash.

Thanks for taking the time to help others by creating and posting this video, I can't see why others are criticizing carefully dropping the plugs in place, I really don't think that will change the gap that easily. I myself would probably use a spark plug socket with the rubber boot inside but that's me working on my own car and taking my time while not doing a video. Thanks again.

I have 09 Saturn Aura XR with the same engine. I paid a local shop $600 to replace the plugs and coil packs at 120K miles because I was told that the intake had to come off. Fast forward a few years and another 100K miles. Car started misfiring under load. Watched your video and even though the Aura is a bit more cramped and I had to pull a couple evap lines had them all changed (plugs and coils) in about an hour. Looks like the shop that did it last time didn't change the packs (it still had the originals even though they charged me for new) and screwed up the plug gaps as well. No two were alike, with a variance of over .015 from the least to most. Never going back there again.

I had my spark plugs changed for my 2013 impala by a local mechanic and he loosened the intake to get to the back spark plugs. After changing them and torqueing the intake bolts in, the car started fine but the next day when i started driving again everytime i give it light class when accelerating from a complete stop it makes a mild ticking noise. Could this be a sign of poor spark plug installation? The ticking sound only comes when I accelerate on local roads, not when i’m idling or driving on the freeway
