I just did this yesterday with a hammer and screwdriver. That didnt work so after trying with many other objects I finally was able to take them off with a punch. I need to get an air hammer👍

Having never worked on drum brakes or bearings...I think you saved me a headache. base on what I'm watching, I see why my front drivers side wheel will not hardly turn....it appears the inner wheel bearing is in backwards on my 56 Mercury.

Glad to hear you got it figured out. Very strange to see something like that in backwards. But that, I would fix that and then see how she turns.

@@AlfsMustangGarage Again, thanks so much for the video. I dug back into the front drum (after your video) and found out that inner bearing was in correctly, however, the seal was shot and not pressed down (it was barely sunk in)...I lightly pressed the seal down so that it was seated correctly. I also readjusted (pulled in the drum pads in) brakes and added some brake fluid (it was a little low). It spins freely and for a short drive up and down the driveway it appears all is good. RU-vid to rescue!!

My brake drums look just like the ones in this video, the ones that I ordered do not have the studs or the hub built in I cannot find the drums that you have in the video to buy from the usual sources. I think that I am missing something and hope that you can help.

So the drums for the 9" 4 lug which I assume you have, you can round up everything from National Parts Depot. The hub part # is 1102-2A. They also have the studs, part # 1107-1 and drums, # 1102-1. You might want to double check everything but that's what it looks like. I've also got all that from AutoZone minus the hub if you would rather work with local parts guys. Makes returning easier if it's not quite right.

@@AlfsMustangGarage So the hub and the drum are two separate parts that have basically rusted together into 1 piece?
@AlfsMustangGarage
@AlfsMustangGarage 3 года назад
Yes. Either they are kind of stuck together or some I've seen where the lug stud stakes through the hub and drum and thus holds together

@@AlfsMustangGarage I think that is what has happened with mine. I am glad that I asked and am extremely thankful for your help. I am on NPD right now ordering the parts.

You're very welcome. I'm glad I can help. You can probably get your bearings and hub seals too. I would assume they have them

Not pictured, the migraine that is removing the bearing that's still stuck to the spindle

Umm, no those just slide off with the drums.
