This video will show you how to mitigate tracker pairing issues, such as where one of your trackers doesn't connect on startup, or trackers randomly disconnect while playing and won't reconnect. This video will also show you how to mitigate the issue where your foot might snap to your hand in VR Chat when you step away and come back, and you have to restart VR Chat to correct.

Some people are reporting that the 3rd (or last) tracker won't pair unless it's connected to your PC via USB. I have not been able to replicate this issue with my setup, but with all the various hardware and software configurations out there, it is very possible my system won't have this issue. If you try to pair the 3rd (or final) tracker, and it does not want to pair, I would try to move the dongle to a different USB port to see if that helps. If that doesn't fix it, some people say connecting the tracker via USB to your PC will get it to successfully pair with the final dongle, though I have not been able to verify this so I cannot confirm if it will work or not. I still wanted to pin this for those who may face this issue.

@@GreenSunshineVRC I hope you've already gotten this figured out, but in case you didn't, be advised not all micro usb cables are equal. Some of them pass through power, but no data. I had this issue when mine first arrived, it took me hours to troubleshoot down

Great guide! I just got a set of VT3s and have never had any FBT gear. At first I was concerned because I saw that it all works best when each one has it's own dongle, and that sounded like a headache. Your instructions and captures were easy to follow and the best part was the explanations and reasoning for the process. I had ZERO issues setting mine up for the first time. Thank you.

7/8/2022 Thank You!!!!! I did not know you had to pair them like that i been fighting all morning and before work to get my controllers and trackers paired!!! One thing i do want to say is after you pair your second tracker and you pair your third tracker it'll say "it looks like you have all devices paired" thats not the case, if you plug your third dongle in it'll go back to the pairing process and then your good go!!!!!

I had a problem where my usb's kept "Malfunctioning" and would try to resync all of my trackers, this would cause Base Stations to disconnect too. i have 8 trackers, following this Video fixed that issue. so i recommend this

I had it so i could not pair them back to back so did need to put in one dongle and tracker at the time and restarting SteamVr everytime and turn off that tracker and unplug the dongle.

I had to unplug all dongles except for the broken one and plug in the broken tracker at the same time. I hit pair tracker and while it was looking I unplugged and plugged in the actual tracker a few times and it worked.

I did this entire process after my waist tracker stopped pairing to my computer (blinked blue before just turning solid blue again). Worked for my feet trackers like a charm, repaired with no problems. But the waist tracker still wouldn't connect when doing controller pairing. I'm pretty sure I followed the process to a t, so what could be causing this? What can I do?

Fantastic instructions and very very helpful but in my experience when it comes to managing tracker assignments its better to just set them to "disabled" as far as assignment goes. Vrchat will just assign a trackers attachment to a limb based of proximity to the bone and setting assignments to specific body parts can just sometimes cause conflict. Assigning them to disabled does not prevent a tracker from working in VRC it just wont try to auto assign it to a specific limb position.

I would try that, but I would often have a foot snap to one of my hand controllers, with no way to fix it (feet shouldn't have buttons, so it always ignored them so there was no way to recalibrate). I always had to exit and relaunch Steam VR to fix, which is what made me believe it was a SteamVR issue and not a VR Chat issue. All I know is ever since I made that change, I never had the issue of my feet snapping to my hands again. Maybe they patched it, it has been over a year and a half since I made the change, so it might not be needed any more. I still figure letting people know the option is there is best though, especially for those who play other VR games than VR Chat.

This does not fix this issue for me. When I unplug the headset's USB cable and then try to pair something, it says "Steam cannot find any hardware to pair a device to." So I'm stuck, please help

Followed this guide to a T but it didn't fix my issue. For me I messed up and paired one of my index controllers to one of the tracker dongles, and no matter what I do I can't get it to connect back to my headset. I unpaired everything throught he console, unplugged everything, even reinstalled steamVR completely, restarted multiple times, and had steamVR forget all USB ports in the dev settings. No matter what even when no other usb's are connected, it will not pair to my headset. I do also have a usb 3.0 hub, I've read that may be an issue as well? Anyway I would be super grateful for some help if you can offer any. And I really appreciate this video trying to help us poor folks that made the mistake of going into pairing hell!

So pairing a certain order is just one of the issues when not getting the controllers paired. When SteamVR crashes, it messes up the wireless frequencies. You have to do the same method of unpairing and repairing controllers. If they still do not work, unpair all again and reset the computer. SteamVR can tend to be glitchy with the pairing process. Unplug Tracker USBs first, leave Valve Index USB plugged in, and pair the controllers. Then unplug the Headset's USB, and plug all the trackers in. Then pair them one by one. That should fix the problem if you are getting a similar issue I am having.

whenever i try to connect, my tracker is green but steamvr doesnt show anything at all, not even grayed out. each tracker turns green but never shows grayed or there at all, I have 3.0 trackers and 1.0 bay stations (on quest)

It might, though this is more to fix the issue of your trackers not connecting at all when you initially turn the system on. Trying to resync everything may be helpful though, though it could also be an issue of not enough base station coverage, or your shirt covering part of the tracker (or both).

I realize this is months after post: but hitting an issue where upon trying to pair trackers, as soon as one connects it tells me that they're already connected and I need to turn one off. Is there a way around that?

This is where you have to connect one dongle at a time, pair one tracker to it, then add the next dongle. If it is giving you an error that everything is connected, even though you still have trackers to pair, it means either your PC is not recognizing one of the unused dongles as being available, or one of your dongles may be faulty. Try a different USB port, or see if you can figure out which dongle is bad (this is where writing the numbers on the trackers and dongles to keep track of which is which can be helpful).

Sorry for the delay! I'm assuming you plugged one dongle in at a time, pair whichever tracker to that dongle (based on the numbers), then connected the next dongle?

Do you have your lightboxes on all the time? Cause if you close out steam VR the lightboxes go into sleep mode and you'll lost connectivity with the trackers.

I have my lightboxes set up to keep running even when Steam VR closes. That way, if I have to reload SteamVR quickly to fix an issue, the lightboxes just stay running. To conserve some power, I do have the lightboxes plugged into some Kasa smart outlets that I only turn off if I won't be playing VR for over 48 hours. There is research online that it is not good to cycle the power to the lightboxes too frequently, but also to not leave them running if you won't be using them for a bit.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that. However, the weird part is my dongles are plugged into the USB3 hub built into one of my monitors, which is in a different room from where my VR space is, and I have no issues. So, not every USB3 hub is a problem apparently.

I'm not familiar with the Tundra trackers, but I'd assume you repair them the same way as the Vive trackers (using the Steam VR application to pair stuff).
