How to Root Samsung Galaxy S10e/ S10/ S10+ with Magisk - Full Video Guide

Hello everyone,
here is a complete video guide of John's (@topjohnwu) method of rooting the Galaxy S10 and installing Magisk onto it. Thanks a lot John for sharing this with all of us!
Just make sure you follow all the steps in the correct order and that you don't skip any!!
Also, make sure you download the correct AP file for your device variant and CSC (you can find out which ones you do have by using the Phone Info app from the PlayStore).
It works only on Exynos-powered S10 devices (S10e - S10 - S10+), not on Snapdragon versions.

some additional info : 1. to (re-)boot in rooted mode (after the whole procedure is successfully done) I do not have to use the combo key, just the power key and it starts up rooted :-) 2. I have a natural disgust with all samsungs bloatware so I use rootcleaner to 'freeze' apps (so the phone has less useless BS running) but ... DO NOT FREEZE the Samsung Pay Services (even if you think you will never use it) because then your phone gets 'blocked' and you can restart the whole rooting procedure (starting to hard reset and re-flash the magisk modified AP) Just thought this was worth mentionin. Thanks again Mike (and cohorts) for the efforts !

great video, was nice to re-visit even though i solved my magisk problem pretty easily accidentally on my own lol good tutorial and recommend rooting if you have intermediate knowledge of phones. I was a beginner at first and have lost the occasional bit of data and had the occasional "oh what have i done" moment. Saying this i have never totally bricked a phone and will continue to root my future phones as have have an overwhelmingly positive experience with rooted software :)

Whenever I try to launch titanium backup it crashes straight away, apparently I have root access, I checked with root check. I tried all tricks, delete data folder for titanium backup, reinstall titanium backup, older versions also and it all crashes straight away. Any solution? Thank you all in advance.

Yo I followed every step correctly (Well apparently not), but my phone isn't rooted or doeesn't have magisk installed. I suspect it is because when going through the setup one last time I used an backup, could that be the reason? The phone works fine for now, but what do I do?

Do you plan to make video on how to install TWRP on S10 as well? You have videos on Lineage 17.1 and 18, but nothing on how to install TWRP, which I assume is necessary to install Lineage.

do I always have to press power button when I normally turn on my phone from now on? or is this only when entering recovery? can you do TWRP tutorial, if I have bootloader unlocked I would love to have custom recovery too, because without it its a waste of warrenty

Yes, depends how long you hold it, once it restart let it go to get root, or keep holding it till you drop into regular recovery.

Thanks for the video. However I am running into some problems. When flashing the repacked zip file created by magisk, Odin gets stuck at flashingf the system.img file. My only option is to reflash stock. Any tips?

After plenty of getting stuck and rewatching parts of the video, I think I got there. Though I am confused as to how I am meant to turn the phone on if the battery dies now. If I want to turn the phone on with it being rooted, I need to turn it on a specific way? Otherwise it'll boot and won't be rooted? This is very confusing. Never done anything like this before. Total beginner.

I rooted my s10e back when I got it with this method on Android 10. So when I repatch the currend AP file I can simply upgrade to Android 10 without having to wipe/loosing all my data? (I'd do a backup of course)

09:10 its impossible to enter recovery at this point, its just says "erasing" and turns phone normally. Maybe magisk v24.1 changed something?

@@talgootman4264 was it the vol up + bixby + power key? Try to not connect the cable usb to the phone. And is it the step after you finish with Odin? Because I think in that step you have to be careful and fast in order to install the stuff, not really sure sorry!

Hey I followed all the steps when adding the patched magistik file on odin, it passes on odin but then on phone it doesn't go to where it goes for you stays on download screen writing on top is red "not found rev 0x1a could not do normal boot" any idea where I've gone wrong? Many thanks

I have a really weird problem, when I turn off the phone and turn it on with just powering it up with the power button, no combo,just the power button and check magisk it tells me that it's all ok and rooted. Also when I use root check app it tells me that I'm rooted. How is that possible if I didn't do the power on combo???

I'm not suer how it was rooted, hard to say. You can try installing the apk directly though, nothing irreversible can happen.

Yes, it works on the s10+ (be careful what files you download). Make sure you follow the exact steps in this guide. In case of problems, warranty is void (in theory) when you root your S10+, no matter which method you use.

This VolUp+Bixby+Power combination doesn't work for me. :( When I press it shortly it starts a regular system (without Magisk) and if pressed a little longer it goes into recovery mode.

Thanks for the video! It's most helpful :) I have a question which I'm not sure if you can help me: - I've got an S10e which I haven't switched to yet because Samsung removed rootless Substratum support. So, naturally, I would need root now. Thing is, at least on rootless Substratum, whenever we installed the Substratum overlays, we need to reboot the phone for them to become active. Do you know if this is also true if we have root? Or once I root the phone, Substratum won't require reboots to apply the overlays anymore? Thanks for your help

Hmm, I haven't used Substratum so I'm not really sure. But in any case, if it requires a reboot you simply need to keep the recovery key combo pressed during the reboot and you should be fine.

My phone does not have the OEM unlocking setting. I've been told that to root this phone, samsung galaxy s10, you have to have a model number that ends in F or N. Mine shows up as model SM-G973U. Is there anything I can do?

Downloaded magisk and installed, it's shown as zipped file. I copied over to pc and using Odin, it stuck at file analyzing....it won't go any further. Please help.

@Cristian Sicilia I managed to root. Just have to look for magisk from other site. If it is in zipped file, you still can flash using odin. I downloaded magisk from phandroid.com. Search 'how to root S10' or whatever phone you have.

Yes but you dont need it , because with root you can clean up your android sooo heavily 🥰😍😍😍 you will get an android without google and not just any android, Android 10 !.*___* and without the fucking standard Facebook and instagram app *___*

I rooted my S10. It was fully rooted before and everything seemed like it was working until I powered off the device and turned it back on. Now it seems be to unrooted? I even turned the phone off again and turned it back on holding bixy, volume up and power just like you said.. but still nothing.. version says "N/A" , when I use Titanium Backup, says it cant detect root..
