You just cannot believe how much help this video is for me. My first shipment of stained glass arrived in pieces and since then I have refused to ship panels and only sell at craft shows. I feel confident now that I could use your technique and have a more successful outcome. Thanks for the video and your time.

We used to build wooden crates (and still do on long, thin panels) but the foam packaging works much better

Thank you for the demonstration. I am looking at shipping my first large piece (10x10) in the next few days and trying to figure out the safest and most cost-effective ways to do it. I really appreciate that you took the time to do this. That is awesome. :)

If it's 10 feet square, then I would ship via an electronic shipping firm (I've used Bekins in the past) and I added a wooden box around the shipping foam.

@@GommStainedGlass @Gomm Stained Glass Well, it isn't that big. I meant large for me. Which is 10x10 inches. I am still pretty new to this. The largest thing I have made was about 18x30 inches, and I hand-delivered that. I have shipped a 4 inch suncatcher before, but that was pretty sturdy to begin with and so small I could pack it pretty simply with bubble wrap, a box within a box, and crumpled newspaper. Not feeling like that will work with this one. But if I do ever go that big, I will know what to do now, so thank you for that too. You are awesome.

@@timtabor1181 If you follow the steps in the video, you'll be able to ship UPS and the insurance will be in effect. They do a good job shipping that size. We've very rarely had breaks and then usually on long thin pieces.

I've done almost what you did, but instead of the extra 1" foam on the outside I used 1/8 " hardboard. So far so good...

The extra foam is so that the glass is covered by the shipping insurance, we have had packages that got slight cracks in them, usually it happens on a big panel, not much we can do about that. One client got a crack in a long thin panel and then just turned it around so the cracked piece was down and you couldn't see it once it was installed.

thanks for the video, how would you ship a piece that is 23"x18". Should I go to the UPS store? or use the styofoam method? thanks

Pack them in Styrofoam and then take them to UPS to be bubble wrapped and boxed 📦📦📦

I would really like to purchase a hot knife someday to cut my foam because the Styrofoam is so messy and makes me cringe like scratching a chalkboard LOL. Do you think a hot knife would work fast for cutting the Styrofoam?

I've only work with hot wire cutting so I don't know about a hot knife. We did some styrofoam sculpting when doing a candy window one year. It was fun but there were lots of little staticky balls all over the place!!

I get mine from Home Depot in a 4' x8' sheet, most home centers have it

I found it interesting how you packaged your glass, but in the future I'd really rather hear your talk rather than the fast forwarding. Hey, tell us about a window you did, some experience you've had in the industry. Any of us that are watching your videos don't mind an extra few minutes. :)
