Just a regular singer (not screamer) here, compression is what I’ve been working on with my teacher for the last 3 years and it is HARD to explain and to do!! Can’t even imagine adding effects on to that… love your videos!
I got the mids and gutturals pretty decently down, i’ve been working on my highs lately; they’re the ones i’m most sketched out to practice but i’ve been touching on them.
Hi! So we have lots of videos to help you get started and we also made a guide to getting started here: www.extremevocalinstitute.com/post/how-to-scream-where-to-start-your-vocal-journey
I am just starting out and I would like to give you a huge thank you!!! I tend to get lightheaded the more I use my false cords. How do I train to make this not happen. Am I breathing to much or to little 😅
Could be either too much or too little, both create oxygen deprivation which will cause lightheadedness. These videos may help you! Man I've been trying and trying and trying to learn how to do this s*** properly and it starts off sounding good but that it always hurts and I don't want to damage my voice
Here’s a couple videos that may help you: False cord vs fry screams: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rvQmyYR2k9Y.html Breathing for metal vocals: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wj-gqIPy_44.html Power ≠ tone: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0cxP1gt8Rx0.html Remember in the early stages not to push yourself to do too much too quickly, give your body time to adjust!
What is if you have too much compression? I have way too much compression while screaming, soo much compression that i can use literally 0% air, i can literally hold a hand over my mouth and the spund doesn't change, so that proofs that I'm not exhaling air, but the compression that is too much sorta makes me stop exhaling. That is so much that i actually have to exhale all the air aftter the scream is done, can someone please help me? I have this issue since i started to scream and its almost 3 years now
appreciate your patience! it takes David a long time to learn the artists and then try to recreate/teach the techniques in a way that is healthy and sustainable and easy to learn for the masses. He's currently on tour so making content is challenging! We back catalog as much as we can when he's home but we have to prioritize our EVI Now program first 😁 - Rilee (co-owner)
I keep hurting my voice trying to do harsh vocals. I seem to be able to get the tonal quality when my voice is fresh but I quickly get a dry, scratchy raspiness once I’ve pushed it too hard. It can happen in as little as 5 minutes. What am I doing wrong, aside from everything?
Try easing yourself into it first. Do a normal clean singing warm up, then just work on getting the distortion. For fry, find what note your voice naturally fries at, and work from there. Go up and go down to increase the range until you're comfortable just frying at different pitches. After that you can start incorporating words and remember, take it slowly. Once you get this feeling down, you can work on false chords using the same method. Or you can do it the other way around.
I’ve been doing this for about two years now and I find myself getting lightheaded and basically getting tired midway through a song. my question was do you think that maybe I’m using too much compression like I’m trying to force it out?
Is it okay to act like your holding your breath with a relaxed throat and using your nasal passages to kinda let the air/sound out…if that makes any sense at all 😂
