In this easy to follow demonstration, we'll show you how to screen print on a t-shirt using Speedball's drawing fluid and screen filler. Shop the supplies in this video at www.dickblick.com/brands/spee... #Blick #ArtSupplies
@f3nt0 Yes, they are very different - the blue liquid is called Speedball Drawing Fluid and the reddish brown liquid is Speedball Screen Filler. The blue is meant to resist the brown liquid so it retains the design you've created. Once the brown liquid is dry it is permanent. The blue liquid washes out with water and so the ink will go through the screen to create your print. The brown can be cleaned out of your screen only with a special product called Speed Clean screen cleaner.
@CapcherIt Hi - yes, Blick carries the cleaner for the filler. Check it out by going to our site and then to the Speedball page. The product is called Speedball Speed Clean Screen Cleaner. Then try saying it ten times fast! Thanks!
@KamilleTheNerd Actually, all of the Speedball kits with the exception of the Stencil kit come with everything you need to do the drawing fluid technique as well as the diazo technique. If you want to purchase the materials separately you would need a screen, a squeegee, drawing fluid, screen filler and ink. If you select a kit, make sure it is one that comes with the type of ink you are looking for - either regular ink or fabric ink. If you have further questions, email info @ dickblick . com.
@pyrodisplay Any of the acrylic based screen printing inks are great for paper. You could even use the fabric ink for paper since it is also acrylic based - it is formulated to be extra flexible and wash resistant for fabric.
@eg463665 The screen will maintain the design created with the filler until it is removed with Speed Clean. And yes, after you are finished with a design, clean the screen thoroughly with Speed Clean you can reuse the screen.
The Pigma Micron pen is used because it will give you a visible, sharp line that doesn't bleed or wash off with water. A pencil may work but will be lighter and less visible. It may just require experimentation to see if it works to your satisfaction.
Hi there, I wanted to know: Can you reuse screens after the initial printing session? If so, does the screen filler maintain the design forever (unless you use Speed Clean to remove it)? And, can you reuse screens a lot by washing them with Speed Clean after youre done with each design printing? Thanks!
how long do you have to wait between you apply the screen filler and you wash the screen to remove the screen drawing fluid? I just tried this technique and I think my mistake was to let it dry too long. When I filled with the secreen filler the siluete wasn't easy to see. Is that normal? I'd appreciate your advice, thanks!!!
+Enrique Santiago Thank you for pointing this out. Yes, it is necessary to allow the screen filler to dry before washing out the drawing fluid. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!
Blick Art Materials how usually for the drying step. I was successful my second try with a shirt.. the second try was too blotchy I could barely see the letters apart. and the third try all I got was a huge black square. idk what happened the third time
+Enrique Santiago This could have happened for a couple of reasons. Does it look like the screen filler washed out? It may not have been applied thick enough and as you pushed the ink through you also pushed out the screen filler. The other problem may have been that you were using too much ink or even pressing too hard. We recommend washing out the ink from the screen and hold it up to the light. If you can see pin holes, then reapply the screen filler to just those areas. Allow to dry for a day or two and then try again.
Your video is great and thanks ever so much for it. Could you tell me which fabric you're using to fit put in the frame? I think I'm going to try it soon after your reply. Happy New Year from my island in Indian Ocean. God bleSS
@BBeartje Speedball makes a product called Speed Clean that is most effective for removing screen filler. You can find product information on the Blick Art Materials website dickblick . com and search for Speed Clean.
Hi, i am so excited to get my own products but right now i am really confused by what exactly you are using. I mean the Blue and Brown fluids are different. Can you specify what they are? Thanks in advance.
Yes, the screen is reusable. Inks and fillers may be removed after you have finished your prints. Cleaning materials are available on our website: dickblick . com/screenprinting
Wait, how come when you wash the screen to clear off the blue colour at 2:00 the brown colour doesnt come off too? is it made of different material? can you tell me the difference between the blue and brown one?
Dre Lee Hello Dre - You do want to wait for the Screen Filler to dry completely. It may not take a full 24 hours, but that will certainly be sufficient to make sure it’s completely dry. If you would like additional assistance, please feel welcome to contact our Product Information team at 1-800-933-2542.
so wat marker did u use to out line the image on the screen can it be any marker? and how long doi let the drawing liquid before i put the screen filler
Luis Robles Rick is using a Sakura Pigma Micron Pen (available on our website at dickblick.com, but any water proof, permanent marker would work. For any additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!
+Patrick O'Donnell It actually works best if you put the drawing fluid and screen filler on the ink side (the recessed or insideside of the frame). This allows the screen filler to fully fill the mesh. It also allows you to complete the screen in the way you would view it. If you applied the filler to the reverse side you would need to make sure to reversed the image. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!
@boscobear33 Hi - I am not certain if I understand your question. There is a technique using a stencil for printing. Please take a look at our How to Screen Print Using the Stencil Technique on our channel. You may also email our Poduct Information experts who can help you with projects and product questions. Please email them at: info @ dickblick . com. Thanks!
On a broad pattern such as this, you could just mask the area outside. However, on more intricate designs the fluid will really help as you can go over the design with the filler and that area will wash out.
Blick Art Materials Videos The drawing fluid pulls away when you use the screen filler - 3 hours of detail work totaled in one pull of the squeegee :( I spent over $40 on the kit that needs extra supplies, tshirts, and then $15 on screen cleaner to attempt it again. Pretty sure my daughters sweet 16 shirts won't be a reality this weekend.
I let the screen block dry and then pulled over the acrylic paint. The results was perfect, I was so pleased until I came to wash the screen. Absolutely nothing washed off! I bought a remover online and this didn't work either. I now have a screen I cannot use 😔
yes you can first remove all ink from screen and then simply wash with warm water and dish detergent. For stubborn screen filler, gently scrub with a soft bristled brush using Speedball Cleaner or Greased lighting (Any degreasing agent will do, this is just what the manual says)
How do you recommend heat setting the shirt? Can you wash the shirt directly after heat setting it? Or do you recommend waiting 24 hours after heat setting?
You will need to wait until the printed image has dried completely (at least 24 hours). Then, use a standard, household iron set on the appropriate temperature for the fabric you printed on. After it has cooled from heating, it is fine to wash it. If you would like additional assistance, please feel welcome to contact our Product Information team at 1-800-933-2542
xanScorp The micron is recommended because it will not clog the screen and does not need to be removed .If you would like additional assistance, please feel welcome to contact our Product Information team at 1-800-933-2542.
+lboogiegohrd .#TeamXNihilo Hi there! You can purchase these on our website, (or in one of our retail locations): www.dickblick.com/brands/speedball/#screenprinting
Hello - we are using a screenprint screen made of polyester. The specific product information can be found by clicking on the link in the video description which will take you to the Blick Art Materials website Speedball page. Thanks for watching!
hey I am a screenprinter also. I really hate preparing screens. such as emulsion and burning the image on. if I paid you would you be willing to do it for me and ship it? I would greatly appreciate it!
+Dario Xolalpa Unfortunately, we do not have the resources or facility to offer custom created screens. There are companies on the internet that do offer this service. A search for “custom screens for screen printing” should provide a number of options.
That's insane. What do you do if you want to print multi-colors or dot scale or butt registration... This is for an extreme hobbyist that isn't doing any production...
@ibzal49 If you find you have any questions along the way you can contact our Product Information team by email at: info @ dickblick . com. They are the best source for assistance. Happy printing!
+Mengnan Wei That's why you order a bigger screen, and use photo emulsion. The purpose of this video is hopefully for home use for people who don't want to spend and invest thousands of dollars into something that has a life of 6 months.
+Klaem0re Yes, a vinyl sticker could be used as a mask, however, make sure it is adhered/attached to the screen well. Otherwise, the filler could seep under the edge. You could then use some additional filler to clean the edge of the image up after the vinyl has been removed. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!
