Dr. Tamra Wroblesky of Inner Dynamics Physical Therapy demonstrates how to perform a self obturator release in two different areas. Obturator tightness (a hip rotator muscle) can cause pelvic pain and bladder issues. Try this release at home after discussing with your pelvic PT if this exercise is right for you. I’ve been having a lot of pain with sitting, in the aftermath of a anal fissure that fully healed, and I was diagnosed with pelvic floor dysfunction by my colorectal Doctor Who gave me the all clear on the Fissure, but (luckily) sent me to a PFPT to help me with residual pain. This is exactly where I’m having a lot of discomfort and massaging this area mimics a lot of the discomfort I’m having, I’m going to discuss this with my pelvic floor physical therapist and keep doing these releases that you showed. Thank you so much!

Interesting information. Makes sense, I sit a lot at my job and my knees tend to go out (rotate outward) when I sit down. Sometimes, I have to put some effort in just holding my knees closer together when I sit down and if I don't put in this effort, they'll just swing back out. I believe one of my issues is that the rotation of my legs inward are weak and the rotation of my legs outward are tight. In a nutshell, stretching and strengthening around my sit bones and crotch should turn things around eventually.

This massage only hits the very edges of the obturator internus. If you're not having success with this massage, you might consider getting an Ultrasound guided injection into the muscle of botox or some kind of anti-inflammatory. Speaking from personal experience.

Did the botox work and did insurance pay for it?

@@shaleeenbaudin3860 Oh sorry to clarify I have not gotten it yet. I just have not had success with pelvic physios actually knowing how to help someone relax their obturator internus. You can really only palpate the edges of it, which is unlikely to actually resolve tension in there. According to the studies I've looked at, botox injections seem to be effective, though they don't treat the real root issue. I have just had my first successful appointment ever with a specialist who has diagnosed me with TL junction syndrome and gave me an exercise which ACTUALLY seems to resolve the tension in there. It's basically repeated reps of back extensions over top of a volleyball where my lumbar spine meets my thoracic spine. Very intense and seemingly very effective for my case. Will do reps 6 separate times a day and see if I continue to progress.

I had Pro Lo therapy injections in three of these muscles, (gemellis and obturator) and it seemed to work fairly well. I did one side and then noticed the other side was almost as bad and had that side done two weeks later. It is a very uncomfortable injection.

@@lesleylesley5821 Is prolo can reached those muscles or Ligaments? Because any deeper would reached pelvic floor. Thanks.

Hi Tommy, This external massage only hits the edges of the muscle, but there is fascia that lies on top of all our muscles which contains superficial nerve endings. These are involved with our pain response. We have had great success treating people's pain and showing them how to treat their own pain just with these external techniques. The sidelying technique also gets near the pudendal nerve, artery, and vein exiting the pelvis and increased bloodflow to pelvis can help in muscle recovery. For those that need a more direct approach, internal work can be very useful in hitting all aspects of the obturator. What is even more important is to determine why obturator is tight to begin with. Most people have poor hip mobility, poor hip strength, poor lumbar mobility (which it sounds was more your issue), or abdominal tension or constipation sitting above the muscle.

This does absolutely nothing and is actually regressive. If this works for you 1. Good for you 2. You didn't have a problem to begin with Just pay the 150$ for an hour and get dry needling done. Might take 3 sessions of 15 minutes on each side Stop playing around with fingers and tennis balls and therawands.
