How to set Preconditioning on the Renault ZOE ZE50 

You are a lifesaver! Got my new (ex demonstrator) Zoe last Tuesday. My husband ran back in from the yard this frosty morning saying ’Why is your car engine running?’ The key was safely in an defender pouch. What on earth could be happening? You have answered all my questions and more. Great to know I can precondition away from a charge point (still waiting for it to be fitted).

I don't drive my Zoe every day so I found the heater button on the key fob on my Ze40 really useful.

Looks as though Renault need to simplify that app, to make it much more intuitive. Still, it's useful to know that it can be done, even if you have a handful of sausages for fingers! Thanks Craig.

Morning all. I tested the in car pre- conditioning this morning with a time of 10:30. The car actually started at the programmed time, not before. I noted this a few months ago so thought I’d test it again to see if anything changed, but it’s still the same as before. Is anyone else’s the same?

Hi can you just hit a button on the app to get the heat on say before 10 mins before getting in the car?

hi - having retired I currently dont have a regular commute time, however it would be useful to pre-heat and defrost window on cold mornings -- can u set a stop time or does it wait for you to drive it - this clearly would be impractical, whereas an arbitrary burst of 30 mins say 9am each am would have car ready for later in the morning - will it include heated windows - an essential requirement

I have a new Zoe through ONTO which I love, however I’m trying to get the precondition system to work but it only works if it’s plugged in. As I am unable to have a home charger this system is pretty much pointless for me as it is. Any ideas on how I can get it to work without it being plugged in?

hi craig, hope you’re doing well! actually i have a zoe 2015 and when i charge 99% or 100% it shows for example 90 miles or 85 but it drops so quick the miles ! do you have any idea if i need to change the 12v battery!? thanks

on the older Zoes the preconditioning says that it will be preconditioned at hh:mm, but that's the time that it will actually start preconditioning at!!!

I have recently placed an order for a Zoe which is currently being built. This will be my first EV vehicle and would be grateful on how the electronic handbrake works as its alien to me. I understand its a brake but does it engage automatically in certain situations or not or is it a functionality that has to be applied manually. Thanks

Why does it still display all days of the week if you set it to preheat only Monday, Wednesday, Friday?

Once off peak has been set; we have octopus 10:30 - 02:30, the car will charge and ready for the morning, however, the following evening we have to go into settings and press the button for programmed charging, it defaults to charge immediately. Is there a way to set it so that we don't need to keep resetting?

I see from your "driving assistance" home screen, shown briefly at 1.23, that you do not have emergency braking assist. I was disappointed to discover that it was missing from my car also and was going to have a moan, when I saw on the Renault Zoe web page that this was only fitted to cars manufactured after July 2020. This nugget of information was conveniently missing from the many youTube reviews that I watched before getting the car. My car is currently with the main dealer having a huge red message which fills the dash display when I get stuck in heavy traffic. It says "WARNING: Engine Failure Risk" and the car goes into limp mode. I then have to switch off for 10 seconds and it's OK to continue if I knock it into neutral every time I have to stop. Not good.

So that information tooltip from the car about preconditioning is complete BS that it needs to have been plugged in at least 2 hours before the preconditioning start time. And instead they just needed to say SOC needs to be at least 40%. What an insane message they left in there.

It has some stupid flaws that any potential buyer should know about. And the biggest stupidity is that it could be fixed with firmware, but Renault just does not care. If you live in a warm climate (never below 7 degrees C) these complaints/issues do not apply to you. When it is cold, you can not control the traction battery heating. So if being on a journey when it is below -5C your maximum charging speed is 7kW even at 20% SoC. To get full charging speed the traction battery needs to be above +7C. The heating of the cabin can not be controlled during charging. A workaround exists, heating can be turned on thru the app. But the temperature will still be drop to about 10C if it is below -10C outside. The heating/cooling thru the app is limited to 10min, no matter what, but it can be repeated every 10min manually... So it is not sufficient in low temperatures as it will not heat up the cabin or the traction battery enough when it is below +5C in 10min. The supplied single-phase 230V cable is strict 10A only and has no adjustments neither in the charging cable nor in the car settings, it is always maximum charge speed and always to 100% SoC.
