This bag is huge, and has compartments inside for a laptop sleeve, wine bottle, or your favourite drink bottle, and a welt pocket, as well as loads of storage space.
The sleeve fits over a travel trolley handle with ease, and has magnetic snaps on the inside.

I finished this bag last night. It did take some time. I travel to multiple schools and wanted a way I could bring everything with me. I have a small cart with a trolley handle and putting this bag on top will allow me to move from building to building efficiently. I used faux leather and duck cloth. I recycled some dog food bags as lining to provide structure and some water-proofing in case of weather. I washed them first of course! lol. I learned so much from this project. I am thinking about making another one for toiletries to take when I go to work conferences. I really like how it looks with the top stitching and the bands along the top. It gives the bag a very nice finish. Thank you for sharing this tutorial.

I like the double handles for the added strength but they would drive me nuts separated like that. I would sew the inner and outer handles together in a few places. Once across just above the top of the bag then skip 6”-8”sew across again and then sew the top parts of the handles together. By skipping 6-8” at the bottom, it leaves a nice loop to thread a jacket through. I’m always laying my jacket on the top of my bag and picking it up off the floor😂 a loop right in the handle would probably hold it more securely and be handy as heck.

Love everything about this bag, the color, size, and style. I love the way the front pocket looks with the seam down the center. I think it would be nice to make the water bottle strap from elastic. That way it would hold different size bottles securely.

The elastic is a great idea Charlotte. I opted for the sleeve so that a wine bottle would sit there securely, but for drink bottles, elastic would be great😃

When I make bags with double handles, I make the inner handles short for carrying by hand and the outer handles long for over the shoulder. I'm excited to make this - I have been saving some fabric I bought that I've make a bit of luggage from, so this is going to be the next piece in my set! Instead of magnets, I'll be adding an extra flap from the top towards the inside with a zipper along the center - won't be a complete closure, but a bit more closed which I prefer. I was going to wait until I made it to comment, but I had to write now: I absolutely lost it when you said you accidentally filmed the roof - you said it in line with all your instructions as if I was supposed to do that part next and I had to stop the video and rewind! I know that wasn't your intention, but I really needed a laugh and that got me good and I thank you for it:) Great seam ripper tip for not cutting too far for magnet insertion!
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs Год назад
Haha, I'm glad you got a laugh out of that Vikki. I do so many stupid things sometimes, that I just have to share them. When creating this bag, I almost made the inner handles shorter, but the following day, I ended up stitching them together as there was just too much to handle 😁

What a great bag! I love the versatility and variation possibilities of this bag. Thank you for this and all of your in-depth and concise tutorials, Christine!! As for any changes, I would have padded the laptop sleeve with batting. Also, I would be impatient when trying to locate all four handles each time I needed to pick the bag up The inner handles, if not in use, may get on the way of me trying to access items in the bag. So, I would construct the bag with them - but later, I would stitch the inner and outer handles together on each side, doubling their thickness to create stiffer handles that may be easier for me to use.
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs Год назад
I'm impatient as well, and ended up sewing the handles together the following day. Great idea for the batting. I didn't even consider it, but then, there was so much else happeing with this bag 😃

Yes to the double handles. However, I’d stitch the two together, thus creating two extremely strong handles. Put more depth into the laptop sleeve, and use an iron-on foam padding, front and back. The sleeve will become a little ridged, but will give you a bit of protection should the bag fall. Great job! ❤ Edited to add: Seam ripper hack: Place a pin perpendicular to your marked cut line where you must stop cutting. The ripper will stop against the pin and go no further.

Very good tutorial, you make it look so easy. Agree with the other comments about the four handles and you agreed as you have seen the handles together. Don't think I'd leave them out due to the weight this bag will carry. I liked that you showed it with the sewing machine inside. What would you do to make that for a sewing machine? I would want wheels... Is that possible? You would need somehow to reinforce the bottom. But wonderful bag, great job Christina as usual. I always look for and forward to you postings.
