Hi Paul, I am enjoying watching your videos for I am a first-time DIY. I have taken the 3 layer of wallpaper and paint on top of wallpaper off and now at the stage of sanding my walls back. I was told by a paint specialist that my walls are one of the worst he's come across. However the work has to be done so watching your videos is encouraging me that it can be done. So thank you for your videos

Paul, thank you so much! I just removed 4 layers of wall paper from our hallway, below the chair rail. I'm a pretty handy lady but this would be my first time tackling a wall repair. This video really boosts my confidence. I was gonna order from HD but will be happy to support your store instead.

Hi Paul, I’m a DIYer from Puerto Rico, your video is great, thanks for this tutorial. I just removed a wallpaper with 2-3 coats of paint on it, but thankfully the wall doesn’t look as bad as the one in this vid. Tomorrow I’ll go buy Gardz since I had no idea that was the next step and that’s how I found you, after googling what should I do next. Question: how do I smooth the compund to a yogurt consistency if I bought the one that’s already mixed? I just found out our Home Depot doesn’t sell Gardz, can you suggest another equivalent product?

Thank you Paul Peck! I took out the wallpaper and several coats of paint on top of the wallpaper that had been in our guest bedroom since we moved there 25 yrs ago. By the time I got done my walls were a disaster. Since watching your video and you answering my question I was able to finish the guest bedroom and make it look fabulous. My husband was amazed! Thanks for saving me lots of money, I thought I was going to have to hire someone to fix my mess. I'm a 62 yr old female and I feel great being able to accomplish this big project! Couldn't have done it without following your video!

Hi Paul, DIYer here, remodeling my 1913 bungalow kitchen. Had a contractor raise the ceiling 2' in half of the area to match the other half, and I'm doing everything from the mudding and taping on out. I have new drywall butted against old drywall, plywood walls, and mdf - and NOTHING lines up nicely! Also, there were damaged areas where I removed tile. Gardz worked great there! About to skim coat, and your videos are giving me some much-needed encouragement!

DIY here. I have quite of bit of experience painting because my dad was a landlord and have several rental properties. I frequently helped clean up and paint after each lease. But new to dry wall and repair, my brother did that part and i would paint. Bought our forever home 2 years ago and it was a fixer upper. Finally getting around to remodeling a bathroom feom the 1980s with wall paper that was out directly on the dry wall. The walls are a mess but after watching your videos i think i can do a decent enough job.

I tried skimming over bare brown paper last year and it was a disaster, it does bubble like crazy. Took me 4 layers of drying and sanding over a few days to finally get it under control. Then I saw one of your earlier videos about using Gardz. anyone who says the paper won't bubble is lying.

You can use mud like this on some paper and it soaks up the moisture and pull right off when before it was impossible to pull off… or skim like this then spray knock down

Killer buddy. My dad was a drywall contractor for over 30 years and had me spotting the bottom row of nails for a few bucks when I was six thru out life if I need extra bucks dad always had something to throw my way for work. So I guess you can say I know my shit. I usually get embarrassed for people when I watch them try to do knife work they look all goofy uncoordinated. It’s a rare thing to see someone master people don’t realize it’s an art and takes time and patience to get down I got respect for anyone that looks at home busting out a smooth wall rock on bro!

Hey Paul, Thanks so much for these videos. I am an independent remodeling contractor and have been for about thirty years. I've done lots of full on turnkey remodeling projects and do 90% of the work myself but always avoided major drywall repair jobs and wallpaper nightmare repairs because... well I'm kind of slow and until recently not real proficient at drywall finishing. But, 4 months ago I started watching your videos and immediately began improving. I am currently on a project in which the client has requested that the popcorn ceiling be removed. After watching your skim coating videos I feel confident that I can give them a smooth ceiling and leave them well satisfied. I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again!

I’m working on a bathroom wallpaper removal right now! Also about 30 years old, and gross. I can't tell you how thankful I am for this video. The previous owners of this home not only did a terrible job with the addition to the house but they did a terrible job with the drywall, placing the wallpaper, removal of wallpaper, and then another bad wallpaper job on top of that. It's a nightmare. Just purchased the guardz primer, sanded down some areas, and removed excess wallpaper. I am a DIYer but know more about plumbing (daughter of a plumber) so this is all somewhat new to me. I have had enough experience to know that the job the previous owners did was a "diy don't"! LOL! Thanks to you I know how to overcome this little hiccup and I hope it works so I don't have to replace the drywall.

I've watched a good many of your videos and feeling "kind" of confident in tackling this project. I'm in the process of fixing some holes left behind when I removed a couple of towel bars, mirror and light fixture based on what I've learned from your videos and See Jane Drill 😏. I have the Guardz sealer, got my mud pan, taping knives (6", 10", 12"), joint paper tape (corners have to be redone), sand paper. My next step is to seal the torn drywall paper and on to skim coating the ceiling and walls. Wish me luck, fingers crossed I don't make a complete screw up in there. Thank goodness I have a second bathroom lol. Thanks for your videos, I've learned a lot. By the way, I will be using your paint roller method for applying joint compound to my textured walls to get a smooth finish (not looking forward to that, the entire house has this very rough texture and will probably take the rest of this year to tackle it all. 🤔🤗 #DrywallTube

Drywall repair. I bought an older home and every room in the house has wallpaper that has been painted numerous times! To add to the challenge some walls were not sized resulting in large sections of raw drywall. Watching this series to hopefully help whip these walls into shape. First time working with damaged walls,

I'm a DIYer, bought a house that was diy and rush repaired. Trying to fix up painted over double wallpaper with really old, dried out paste underneath that literally came off the wall in sheets with no effort... I tried to chip off a lifting corner and ended up stripping the entire kitchen 😑 really appreciate the Gardz tip, it'll be a while before we can get to it but I'm really hoping this will help us fix up this house properly, thank you for uploading this!!

Hi Perla, Yes. I hope this helps. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing my friend!😎 -Paul

You make it look so easy. Thanks for the tips . I’ll try them . I do carpentry work ( mostly finish work ) . I’m currently removing wallpaper and trying to redo the walls in my own bathroom. Drywall is something I don’t Love doing, but I get stuck doing drywall repairs at work a lot and now I’m doing it at home . I figure I might as well get better at it so I don’t dread doing it 🤣🤣🤣. I can make it look beautiful, but it takes forever. Hope your tips make it go faster for me . I hate bubbles and knife marks . I’ll have it looking perfect, then try one more time and ruin it . My dad was amazing at drywall. He’s retired now . He made it look easy too . Thank you 😊

Hey! We are DIY-ers in an old house where everything seems like it was done badly /lazily by previous owners! Pulled the wall paper off and so much plaster paper came with it. Really helpful to watch videos about fixing DIY disasters, rather than videos about how to do things when the previous step went perfectly! This video was very clear, helpful, and easy to understand. Looking forward to fixing our wall! Thank you!

Again from the 52 year working contractor: Over fifty years ago my wife and I purchased a 1902 Victorian previously butchered by a DIY’er. One of his remodeling tricks was to, after removing 12 or more layers of wallpaper applied over linen that was applied over interior shop lap which avoided a plasterer and saved money in 1902, was to install 1/4” chip board and wall paper over that. Having little money back then I double coated the papered wall with alcohol based Zingster/Zingseal white primer and then skim coated the walls before painting Alcohol primer IS THE ONLY PRIMER TO USE over wallpaper that keeps the paper from bubbling or peeling. 50 some years later it still looks great and is totally intact

Mi amigo! I’m so glad I stopped removing the wallpaper in one section of the master bathroom. And decided that maybe I should look up how to repair before I continue the whole wall. No I am more confident that I can take down the old wallpaper and fix the minor imperfections that I have already made and will make when I bring the rest of the wallpaper down. 100% thank you for your tips!

I’m a diy-er that is attempting to do,my own wall prep in a home I inherited. The walls look exactly like the ones in this video. I removed the old wallpaper myself. I’m redoing a lot of things in this home for an Airbnb. I just can’t afford to pay the expensive prices to prep and paint, so I’m learning how to prep myself. Who knows? If I get on a roll I may do it all myself.

dIYer here started flipping homes helping a friend do things I knew what to do , meanwhile contractors would come do works and I would ask if I could learn by watching most said yes and now I work for a realtor who buys and rents homes and I’m always busy , dry wall repairs was one I was always late for as I had a full time 8 hour job then so by the time I I helped do my part that was most of the time finished or they were just sanding walls down :( So now thanks to you I know what products to use and how it’s done from start to finish. Thank you so much for sharing this!! Wall looks like new by the way!

Avid diyer here, and have always avoided major drywall repairs other than quick patches. Recently purchased a 1962 home that had multiple layers of wallpaper. After removing everything I found wall patches from previous renovations and none of the texture matched. After repairing anchor holes, screw holes and other damage, the walls looked like Swiss cheese - and I was about to call a Drywaller to skim coat the whole thing when I found your videos. I decided to try it myself - it’s not like I could make them any worse! 1 12” knife and pan and 6” taping knife, a couple of buckets all purpose joint compound and a 3/4” masonry roller (all in about $75) and a couple of afternoons of my time - my walls look absolutely gorgeous. Perfectly smooth (even with an eggshell paint!) they look better than any repair I’ve paid for in the past! Thanks for the great videos!!

Hi, here in NZ, i've used an enamel based sealer over the raggedy old paper which was sanded with 6o grit to scuff up the cardboard fibres, Then rolled with a medium to long pile roller using pigmented enamel sealer, Alkyd Flat enamel typically an enamel based ceiling sealer. Scuff with 60 grit before painting then Light sand with 100 grit to knock the tips down and any high spots, then skim same as you've done. The sealer locks the remnants of wall paper to the wall and stops it getting wet from the plaster coat and releasing if the glue gets wet, Like wet plaster can bulge off the wall creating a blister. And It also prevents the brown stains bleeding through the plaster from the brown cardboard. Stains could potentially bleed through the acrylic top coats in the near future if it isn't sealed. Your way is awesome too ! You've got that down to a fine art , Nice Job !

Paul, Watched my first drywall video from you.... been doing DIY drywall repair on my rental properties for probably 16 years now....always cringe when I have to patch walls... that pressure on one side of the blade trick is one I've never tried..... but gonna try it soon.... I'll let you know how it works for me. And just for the record ... as a school teacher with 27 years experience... I can tell you confidently.... Paul, you have the "gift of teaching". Not many have it, but you do. Thanks for teaching us DIY so effectively. I sincerely mean that. BJ
