This is a very good tutorial. Most other tutorials I have found do not put enough emphasis on the grip. It is by far the most important factor in my opinion to understand once you have the base strength level for the move. Props
Very clear video. Best one I’ve seen on the mechanics of the strict muscle up. Thanks! I love how you explain the need to push down on the bar to transition.
Very good vid. One thing the false and overhand grips have in common other than eliminating the need to rotate is that they shorten the lever arm going into the transition vs. standard grip.
Wow bro I love you! This is the only slow muscle up video that actually taught me something. I´ve never considered this type of grip before but it really makes all the difference! I´ve just did my first kind of slow muscleup with the Pseudo false grip and is is impossible for me to do it with any other grip. I´m looking forward to work on it more, THANK YOU !!!
Brillant video shot man! Just in the beginning you explained which grip is easiest like two or three times 😂😂💪🏻 recently did my first bar and ring muscle ups and I'm excited to see when I'll manage my first slow one 😅
this is pretty good but honestly the no. 1 cue that helps me is to think about consciously piking the legs up to create a moment arm and rotate me forward through the transition
Did my first ever 2 muscle ups and then wanted to make a video. My triceps were exhausted, and i couldn't do it again. I am currently recovering so that I can attempt to make the video again.
OMG i just did it! 😂 after 2 years of calisthenics, I did not even know you have to keep pulling until your chest is over the bar. That was what hindered me from doing the slow muscle up. You are amazing sir
Best one 10/10. Thanks you fro your advice. keep elbow level with the bar during transition exercise. At 5.50 the guy in the background doing endurance shoulder press...
wow, great video. good information, good delivery, good production, good pace - not too in-depth, not too concise.. looking forward to this channel producing more content!
Great video! One this is that isnt pseudo false grip a double denial of some sort its like a duplicated negative name. You could simply say pseudo grip or false grip or am i wrong?
Just watched this. Very informative but I’m still stuck on one part, the TRANSITION part. Basically, I can pull myself up using a false grip, but where I’m stuck is how to “flick” both elbows up to complete the movement. I can easily do normal muscle ups without thinking about the elbows getting over the bar, but it appears I just can’t fathom how it’s done on a slow and controlled MU. Is it my tricep strength is lacking or what is it? Appreciate an explanation, thanks man.
One thing that helps me a lot is really talking the elbows in when doing the transition. I tuck them in as tightly as possible. Makes all the difference
Are there any prerequisites before learning slow muscleup Ashton? Regular muscle ups, ring muscle ups,a number of strict pullups etc? Or the only thing needed is the wrist/forearm strength to hold a pseudo false grip/overgrip?
Hey AmbivalentEnemy :D. Yes, I'd recommend that you get comfortable with muscle ups before attempting this. I can only do about 4 muscle ups, so you don't need to be able to do that many. However, they need to be good form muscle ups and you need to be comfortable doing them. You can't do this if you've JUST learned the muscle up. Gotta strengthen it and let it marinate first :D. I probably should have been clearer about this in the tutorial. Next tutorial I make, I'll be clearer about the prerequisites. Hope that helped!
can you use a pseudo-false grip doing the negative transition portion or will the regular false grip translate when attempting the pseudo false grip muscle up? I came close to a pseudo-false grip muscle up today and I couldn't get my elbows and chest over the bar to save my life. I did a pull day yesterday so maybe I'll have better luck when I try fresh.
I think you can, if you have strength enough to control the transition part of the negative muscle up, i have not the strength yet and in that moment i fall faster, putting much tension on my wrists when i reach the bottom, but if you can do it slowly i think is ok
My bar is really thick at the park it feels alot diffrent than my doorway bar, And the pseudo overhand grip I tried it once and it felt very discomforting maybe I should try it again and experiment with the position now that I can see what the hand is supposed to look like. Question do you press your fingers into the bar?
It will definitely be harder on a thicker bar. My suggestion is avoid anything that causes discomfort. Yes, I personally press my fingers into the bar a little bit when I'm using the pseudo false grip.
fuck this is hard i cant do the transition at all XD even the negative i cant do it i think i should train regular more muscle ups before doing the slow ones XD. TY for the tips very helpful !! il do it eventually !!!
@@AshtonFitness thanks, I worked on my form and explosive srenght and the redults came quick (5 muscle ups and 3 slow). Keep up the great content it really helps!
Explosive pull ups can help build your back strength, but the progressions in this video are progressions that I'd recommend when learning the slow muscle up.
Because you haven't seen my muscle up tutorial ;D! This muscle up tutorial is one of the best on RU-vid. It has helped SO many people learn the muscle up. In fact, it has helped a lot of people learn it on the same day they watched the tutorial. Here is the tutorial: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AmTBPxvdp94.html&t Good luck and happy training! (P.s. Don't rush. Enjoy the process of learning the muscle up and you will get it!)
Yeah this one is super intense. I've never injured myself with it, but it's definitely an advanced calisthenics that takes a lot of prior conditioning to achieve.
