Starting an apprehensive lab pup on the collar. Despite her worry about me you see her begin to offer me the correct behavior very fast.

People freaking out in the comments need to chill. A level 3 setting on the Educator e-collar can hardly be noticed by a dog, and a human cannot feel it at all. It does not hurt in any shape or form. E-collars are incredibly useful and humane training tools when used by a competent trainer.

Haz, very nice video! I have a question. After the conditioning phase, in the intermediate phase when we add distraction, new places, new command, how we chose the appropriate level of the e-collar to be not as high as a punishment, but to be high enough to obey when there distractions -dogs, smells, traffic, etc, but the dog are being distress by it?

Good video. Now you know what the idiots sitting on freeways blocking traffic were doing, they were making dumb comments on e-collar training videos... Anyone who thinks these are painful clearly never owned one or tried one.

I bought an e-collar from Amazon and it has three options. It has shock. It has a super loud noise that only they can hear and then it has vibrate throughout training my puppy I only have ever needed to use to vibrate options

You “had” something at 2 on that first example of the lab. You just chose to see more at 3. Look how happy that puppy looks. Lick licking, avoiding, head down, body slunk.
@servicecollie6581
@servicecollie6581 3 года назад
Well it’s getting conditioned to a new form of pressure, you are bound to see a bit of hesitance from a younger pup who maybe had little to no training or familiarity with pressure.
@carolsouza7712
@carolsouza7712 3 года назад
@@servicecollie6581 I guess I am saying I don't see the need to move to an e collar on a puppy ever. My opinion . Most puppies are sponges for training and love to learn anything you want to train. At this age you can teach leash pressure or any other behaviors with just a buckle collar. They can learn at 4 months rock solid sits and downs despite any distraction the way you teach Guide Dogs for the Blind. E collars in the hands of good trainers can be a great tool. But why for puppies? And as I said, just my opinion.
@servicecollie6581
@servicecollie6581 3 года назад
@@carolsouza7712 I don’t use e collars on young puppies, I think there’s no need when they’re that young. Any good trainer knows there should be use training methods that are separate from corrective tools too for certain things you’re trying to train the dog to do. I have a handful of clients that come to me not wanting certain tools over others. But keep in mind that leash pressure to the dogs, is the same kind of pressure like it is from an e collar. I don’t start corrective tools on dogs until they are at least 6-7 months of age when they are nearing the times of defiance and puberty. I like for my dogs to learn major skills from a young age, if they are showing they can and want to handle it. Helps training stick because they slowly grow with the desired behaviors rather than growing to be a certain way and then getting a bunch of training shoved down their throat.
@servicecollie6581

@@carolsouza7712 and also maybe that puppy is going to end up being used as a service/working dogs. My main training revolves around service dogs and it’s essential you condition the puppies to pressure from a young age so they can preform the tasks their handler wants them to while they use pressure for positive or negative purposes. It’s much more harmful to the dog as a whole if it grows up to not know what pressure means or feels like and then to suddenly get the pressure incorporated into training, it can be detrimental and ruin the dogs psyche if done wrong. A lot of training requires pressure at a young age. Also, the e collar at low levels does not hurt and that’s been proven. The puppy in the video just literally doesn’t know what the sensation means, as to why Haz is trying to train and condition them to the pressure
@carolsouza7712

@@servicecollie6581 And like all trainers there is a point where we agree to disagree. Not wanting a fight, just healthy discussion. Ken Ramirez is quoted as saying, “the only thing two trainers can agree on, is the third trainer is wrong!” 😆

Introducing the e-collar during class like that is such a bad idea... The dog is going to make inadvertent associations. Also those dogs will become collar wise... The small mistakes really tell a lot.

Then YOU were clearly doing it wrong! The tool can be used incorrectly, but it's up to you how to use it. Any dog will be mildly confused at first, but it doesn't have t be an aversive. I use it as a tactile cue.
@mistiedanielle9615
@mistiedanielle9615 4 года назад
You need to have the collar snug so that it doesnt move around, and start on 0 and SLOWLY move up, one number at a time, until you find the lowest setting possible that the dog reacts to. If your dog "cried and whimpered" you clearly screwed something up. The reaction you're describing comes from using a setting thats much too high for a dog that isnt used to it.

HORRIBLE TRAINING GUYS DO NOT FOLLOW THIS. HES CONTINUOUSLY HOLDING THE BUTTON, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO ONE TAP AND LOOK HOW MISERABLE THAT PUPPY LOOKS
@wolfherzen5423
@wolfherzen5423 2 года назад
Lol 😂 if the dog was miserable it wouldn’t come to him with out a pop of the leach. Just saying. 2 it doesn’t hurt the dog on that low of a setting. Now if you have a high setting yes 1 tap but also if you have a high setting on the dog shame on you for hurting your dog. Nor will the body league would look happier every time. Just saying. Low posture is respectful in the dog world. She a bit nervous looks like she at the 9 months to a 1 year mark. Witch is completely normal. It’s called the fear stage for a reason. 98% of dogs go through this. If the dog is so miserable it wouldn’t take the treats. Nor will dog go to him at all. Ik I have a dog with PTSD. She gets so nervous she won’t takes treats. She run and hides or at least try too. There nothing you can do but wait it out and try again. Do the same exact thing over and over until there no reaction. Point is that dog is just fine.
