We use that knot in some surgical closures! I didn't realize I already had the answers for how to end my project haha

It actually has a name. I was suprised when she did it because thats a knot technique that surgeons use. 😁 It's called the aberdeen knot! 😁

Your videos have helped me so much with learning embroidery. Thank you! I have THE HARDEST time keeping the back of my work neat and not getting a million tangles. 😭

StiffInTheCrypt Aw thank you, I’m so glad it’s helped! The back of mine can get a little crazy too haha I don’t know if you already do this but I try to tie off my thread pretty much each time I’m done with a color or piece of thread so the tails don’t get tangled up in other stitches while I’m embroidering! It’s kind of annoying to have to stop and do it every time instead of waiting but it helps in the long run!

Thank you so much for this, as someone who doesn't feel comfortable doing something without step by step instructions, this is fantastic.💛 You can find all kinds of videos for how to do a certain stitch but no one seems to include ...what I'd argue is the most important part (how to finish it). 😅

Since seeing this second method, I’ve been using it to finish all my stitches on any type of clothing project. I’m always still nervous though that it’ll unravel. Can anyone speak to how secure the second method actually is?

This is also known as the Aberdeen knot, it is also used in surgical techniques (although it is knotted about 4-5 times before slipping the thread al the way through) so it's pretty secure😉

I use the second end knot on all my stuff even if it’s not clothes cuz security matters and almost everything eventually needs to be washed which could cause it to come undone.

I tie off by just running thread through the back threads in various directions about 3 times. It's not going anywhere. I roll the thread around my index finger tip then pull thread to create knot. Fast and easy. Barely any tail if any
@snoopyjenn8379
@snoopyjenn8379 10 месяцев назад
Your first knot is too small and doesn’t work well on fabrics with a lower thread count. It also requires 2 hands. My grandma taught me that while holding my needle in my right hand, you wrap the end around your index finger twice and then pressing your thumb forward towards the end of your finger, you roll the two pieces of thread together. Once it comes off of your finger, you grab the string above the knot between the pad of your thumb and the nail of your index finger and then pull towards the end. If you twisted it enough during the rolling part you should get a good knot that’s a little bigger than your version.

Do you think the last knot will be safe on clothing that will be washed in a washing machine?
@loriholloway5866
@loriholloway5866 6 месяцев назад
Those knots will come loose when wet. Just run your thread through your back threads a few times. Sew INTO the knot you just created. Lasts forever. If you can safely pick up a bit of fabric, even once, that works great as well. Do the whole thing with needle still threaded.

How do you embroider a three layer panel. I have a Happy Birthday panel with a high loft batting and a backing. I want to embroider around the letters so they become puffy. I was successful with two letters but it took me a long long time. How would you do this and what kind of frame if any. I have search hours and there is no help for this on this site. Thank you.

Could you hit the knot with a little ca glue?
@crewelghoul
@crewelghoul Год назад
I’m not sure I know what kind of glue that is! I would say glue shouldn’t be necessary. I don’t add any glue to any of the knots when I secure stitches and they stay put most of the time.

How you start an embroidery stitch can depend on the type of stitch you are doing, but generally after you make a knot that was shown in the video you would come up with your needle and thread through the fabric.
