I'm sharing how to stop mindless doom scrolling in 1 month! Yes, I finally decided to fix my social media addiction! Although social media "addiction" sounds a bit dramatic, I did find myself on my phone much more than I'm comfortable admitting and it was really starting to take up a lot of my time, focus, and mental space.
I've been wanting to spend less time on social media for quite some time now but without a specific plan, I often fell back into picking up my phone during my break time and fall victim to doom scrolling. I knew I needed to just break the habit. I found the easiest and most effective way to break this habit (for me) was to do a complete 1 month social media "detox" or break.
Social media can be used as a great tool to connect with like minded individuals and to be used as a platform to express ourselves but I felt I was losing a lot more than I was gaining. Now, I feel I have a much healthier relationship and balance with my phone/social media. I go on when I want to but don't find myself endlessly scrolling nor feeling the constant urge to check my phone anymore.

📲 How to Take a Social Media Break
1. reflect on why (why do you need this break, what are you losing by not going on this break, and what do you hope to gain?)
2. identify your fears (what's stopping you and how can you counter that fear?)
3. have a plan (set a date, time frame, and delete apps)
4. have an accountability partner
5. detox hurdles (avoid filling the void with another app)
6. take note of all the positives while on your break
7. returning to social media (change home screen, limit social media apps, set downtime on social media apps)
