Here is one of my favourite exercises to prevent sickled feet. Many dance students sickle their feet when they are trying very hard to increase their point range. In the dance world, we love creating beautiful lines, and sickling is not the line we're after. Sickling also increases your risk of ankle injury, especially in pointe work.
In this video I demonstrate one of my all-time favorite foot and ankle exercises. This exercise strengthens the muscles on the outside of your ankle, which are the muscles that stop the sickle. It also builds foot strength and control, which is the best way to improve your point range safely.
