Well done. Great simple vid for anyone doing an install on 3rd gen Tacoma. Hiding the coax in the bed is great. I would recommend this to any Tacoma owner. thank you.

Where in your cab did you install your CB?

@@teamcrooks6913 My Midland is the one that is contained in the handheld portion; so I leave it wherever until I need to plug it in. It’s lic having the mic without needing the box portion. If I had to install a traditional cb; I would put it in either the glovebox or the center console compartment. Tune your antenna properly and you’ll get great range with any unit.

Very clean mount! Other Tacoma owners told me there's like a firewall plug somewhere in the back wall, but I haven't gone looking for it yet. I'm mounting my first antenna on the rear of the hood up front for VHF/UHF, but will install something like your setup for a HF/shortwave antenna.

Moab is the very reason I went to HAM and gave up on CB. I got tired of getting separated from a buddy and having to turn my rig off, stand on the seat, and cup my hands to my ears to hear which direction he went. Maybe my CB setup was off somehow but it only seemed to work for line-of-sight communications.

It’s a basic universal L shaped mount that comes with almost all the connectors. Shouldn’t be more than $10

Small hands or a hanger with the wire connected to it helps. It’s not easy but doable for sure. Good luck sir

Thank you. I used the handheld and just kept it near the center console. On my Jeeps I like to use an overhead Mount with an actual cobra style radio.

Any idea if I could just mount antenna directly to bed stiffeners? Would this be any different for a GMRS radio?

Sure, I don’t see why not. So long as it’s secure and has good line of sight range / little interference I don’t think you’d have an issue.

I just got it off Amazon, had everything I needed and you can mix and match whatever you need. Just got a universal L bracket kit that mounted to the antenna and then my own cable

I use the handheld version so that I can put it anywhere I’d like depending on where we are running around. I try and toss a clip mount in a couple locations so you can shift as needed

Best thing to do is make sure it’s tuned after its setup regardless. So many people dislike CB radios because they can’t make good come but have never tuned the setup. Every setup needs to be confirmed tuned. If not then your just gambling that it works

Why would you mount it to the back of the bed???????? That looks so stupid. Everyone knows you mount them right behind the cab

Because I like the way it looks and it gives it less interference with the cab. I mean that’s just basic practical radio theory though but I mean I guess you could mount it wherever you want if you don’t care about getting the best range.

@@FreedomCrawler To get the best range, plant the antenna as close to the center of the vehicle as possible. That allows your signal to propagate in all directions fairly equally. Mounting at the end of a vehicle makes your signal more directional. Not as big a problem with CB which is pretty much line of sight but it does make a difference. There are solutions for mounting behind the cab to raise the antenna above the roof line and it looks cool too.
