Great video. Only thing is If your not getting the voltage you stated Then you should state what the exact problem is. Stator is bad. Voltage regulator is bad, battery is bad. Switch is bad.. this will greatly help the greenhorns

You're the only one i could find that would actually show how to test the voltage regulator. Everyone else seems like they are part swappers.

Thanks very much. I have been recharging my battery with a battery charger after I mow each time or sometimes the mower goes dead before I finish and I have to charge the battery. after watching your video I went out to test it and found the wire from the voltage regulator to the battery was not plugged in. I had already charged the battery so I tested everything as you said before plugging in the wire and everything is working great now. Saved me a bunch of money and did not have to take it in for service. Thanks again.

You can also check the stator by unplugging the double wire connector on the voltage regulator and setting your multimeter to Ohms. Then testing between the two pins in the connector. You should get a reading of OFL (or 0.00). Easy way to check the insulation breakdown of the stator. (and the most common problem with them.

Mine works right because i hooked up a battery charger jumper to it and mowed grass then unhooked it from the mowers battery and it fully charged it up faster than charging it from the outlet

Very good video , but would like to add one more very important electrical tip on the voltage regulator on that Kawasaki engine, is that the 2 screws that hold the voltage regulator to the plastic engine shroud must have a grounding wire going from the engine starter bolt to one of the 2 screws that hold the voltage regulator to the plastic engine shroud in order for the voltage regulator to work properly. The voltage regulator must be grounded, I have seen people not have this wire installed and wonder why their battery isn't charging . Thank you for this great video.

did all the tests the only thing i noticed was the stator was putting out 26vac, battery at 14.6 while running, 12.3 not running. Battery goes dead while using pto. Any suggestions? Just replaced pto same result.

Thank you so much for breaking everything down clearly. The easy test towards the end, testing the battery voltage through the 12vDC charging output wire from the regulator caught my break in the wire!

Thank you for a very complete guide to diagnosing these problems. My battery was bad and you saved me a lot of time and money. I was originally thinking my stator or regulator was bad, but your video pointed me to the battery. I finished mowing, rather than replacing parts that were working.
