Today I tackle the side window on a 2000 Lexus LS400. The tight seals and removal of the door panel can make this a tough window to tint. I walk you through the process step by step and give you a few tips that will make the process easier. This video is not about speed, it's about quality. People forget speed but they'll never forget quality.

All screws were harmed during the making of this film. :D Situations like this are the reason I’ve always just pulled the glass out when tinting a window. To me it is far easier to pull glass than it is to deal with trying to work film into those tight cracks. Of course I only tint my personal vehicles and a few for friends and family, so I am not trying to turn time into money. I enjoy tinting much more when I can do it on the dining room table. Lol

That's interesting. You remove all side windows when tinting a car? Wow.
@athhud
@athhud 4 года назад
Yes I do. I do a LOT of automotive work. I don’t do much window tinting though. So it is far easier for me to pull glass than it is to waste window film because I keep creasing it or getting dirt behind it. If I did it for a living, I would definitely do everything I could to speed things up and obviously pulling the glass takes a little longer (most vehicles don’t take very long though). If that were the case though, I would get more practice bottom loading or two staging. I don’t get much practice though, and I only use ceramic film. Screw ups can get expensive. When I pull the glass, the odds of me screwing up are dramatically reduced.

Ralph, I also like to baby my first pass with a gold card and I ease a smart card along my seals. Then I like to hammer the top with a blue max twice before I roll it up. I'm not trying to sound like a know it all. I just wanted to share with you what is working for me. You probably wander why I would use a gold card for that. It feels good to me for a light first pass.

Great videos Ralph. I consider you a master Tinter and we are always learning, right? I've been tinting for 40 years. Your techniques teach me or confirm my techniques. By the way can your respond where you acquired the new heat gun you were using in your recent video? Thank you, a fellow master Tinter. Kats Auto Tint, Bakersfield California.

What do you do if a tint shop messes up your car locks? When I came in for fro t Tint my remote unlock worked fine. They got the Tint on and put the door back together and were testing everything.. But now the remote doesn't unlock my front door.. What could have happened and how do you fix this?

Newbie here: what is the criteria in deciding whether to fine cut/shave first before shrinking or shrinking a rough/first-pass cut film first THEN final cut second?

i cant hand cut, but ralph is right when he says hand cut is better. its a more accurate cut. at our shop we constantly make adjustments to the pattern the computer cuts after the fact, and its taken a lot of scrapped tint to figure out what each pattern needs. we see a lot of cars everyday, sometimes 15+, so the plotter still saves us time, but hand cut is the best way.

Good video. I was disappointed though to see you take so much time to get the tint job right, then chew the crap out of those screws reassembling the door panel with the drill driver. Attention to detail shouldn't stop until the keys are handed over.

I cringed at the reaming of those screw heads. I want my screws to look like they’ve never had a driver touch them after they left the factory.

No need to pull the panel on this one. I use to do a lot of these back in the day.Prep window squeegee it then roll window up as far as possible to where you can barely fit a squeegee in to get water out of top and then the bottom goes in no problem

I️ never understood why people take panels off. I’ve been tinting 8 years and have never removed a door panel. Only thing I️ ever take off is door seals on some impalas and Malibu’s

Wipe the top of the window with a paper towel and then squeegee before install. You're probably pulling in dirt from the top of the glass.

My question is if this is classified as a difficult window. How do you go with Peugeots.... and the new audis bmw and mercs..
@firstnamelastnameisallowed7943
@firstnamelastnameisallowed7943 4 года назад
So would it be wise or a good idea to trace the patern once its cut to the final shape on to another piece for the other side? I know no two windows are the same exactly but to get it close and save some headache for yourself i would think that could help perhaps? Idk just a thought is all
@kgpp2293
@kgpp2293 4 года назад
Weird how americans dont like to disassemble door trims . My company in Australia you always do disassembly to some degree and get the tint in as far as possible. And trim top edges once its on.
@athhud
@athhud 4 года назад
I pull the entire glass out and tint the window on a table... I don’t do it for a living though, and don’t care if it takes a little longer. My film goes well below the bottom seal, all of the way down to the clamps that hold the glass in the regulator frame. When you go that far down, you definitely don’t have to worry about the bottom edge lifting. Lol
