In this video I get into all the technical details behind twin charging a Cummins diesel engine using a Whipple 200R supercharger and a Phat Shat 62 turbo. I include close ups of the mounting brackets and piping, the theory behind it, diagrams and sizing and part numbers. The car is a mid engine ultra 4 race car.

Thanks for the info. Currently building a super-turbo setup on my 5.9(been 3 years in the works). It took a long time to figure everything so I am glad you put out a video. I am going to use a “Loudvalve” as a bypass valve and use 2 air filters. I am going to setup a vacuum/boost gauge and a valve to cut off the reference signal to make sure there is zero vacuum/boost but Ill have to see. Super is a Kenne Bell 2.8L and turbo is a Garret GT37R(water cooled/ball bearing-have ran it for the last 3 years) Its a street daily driven truck so drive-ability is key. Thanks again.

Whichever flows more air is the one which comes first, then the 2nd would act to further pressurize it so you can stuff more air into the cylinders

First of all, really cool build. Second, I noticed that even at what looks like full throttle in the clips, you aren't running fuel rich at all (no black smoke) how much more power do you think you have on hand to coax out of it? I play with modded duramax LB7's and we need to tweak them right up to the edge on EGTs to lay down the best times and the closer we get to it the blacker the smoke gets.

I could push this engine a lot harder. I’ve modified the afc housing since this video and put a bigger turbo on it. It’s just a bit hazy at the top end now. I don’t plan to push it any further. I’ve got more than enough power for a 5k lb race car. The other thing is that you have to remember is cfm for the blower and the efficiency table

Why do people use twin crews for this job and not roots? The whipples internal compression is great for high boost but if you don't want parasitic loss at high rpm and your turbo will do the work, then you are wasting energy by compressing the air in the supercharger, only to release it in to the lower pressure turbo inlet...

I am not a supercharger expert, but I don’t think the difference in parasitic draw is going to be very substantial with no back pressure, especially since I’m maxing out at 8000rpm which is less than half of the rated rpm. Any extra parasitic draw that does occur isn’t going to have a noticeable effect on a 12v Cummins with all the torque that it has. I like working with whipple. I think that they make a good product and have good customer support. Probably the biggest factor is maintenance. To my understanding, the twin screw is much lower maintenance and longer life span than a roots. That being said, I agree that there isn’t any real performance advantage to using a twin screw in my application. The real advantage of the twin screw is lower air temperature and higher boost air density at higher rpm. In my application the supercharger isn’t really doing any work at that higher rpm.
