After struggling to unclip the vents for several years (always afraid I was going to break off the plastic bit), this close up video gave me the courage to give it a try and I can report that I have finally been successful in getting the wing vents open. So much easier to get to the blower wheel without having to dismantle the whole apparatus. Thank you so much for making this video. Too bad that there is virtually nothing written about how to do this.
Totally agree, I pried it out with a jeweler's screwdriver after watching Jon's video. Same here for years I wanted to rip off that screen! I thought how can they build a system which you can't due cursory maintenance on, especially if/when there is some mold buildup?! "Lifesaving" video! Thanks Jon!
UPDATE - you can remove them, but it is a little difficult, and a little more difficult reattaching them. If you rotate them as far as they will go toward each end, you can slide in a slotted screwdriver and carefully pop them straight down. once apart you will see how it attaches, and that they will only separate at that position. it seems like the correct position is about 1 degree of rotation further than it can go in that position. but there is just enough flex to remove and reattach them. The smallest change in position could have made it much easier.
