In elementary school, my Sunday School teacher drew a "house" on the chalk board and taught us the names 27 books of the New Testament in order. To this day, in my mind, I still "walk up on the porch" with four "pillars" engraved with the letter MMLJ (gospels), before doing the "action" (Acts) of taking off my coat and shoes to go into the "living room" (Romans). Then I duck into that little corner room (1 and 2 "corner"-inthians) before going to pay the bills (God's Electric Power Company / Galatians Ephesians Philippians Colossians), then relaxing in the "T room" (5 flavors, longest names to shortest - 1, 2 Thessalonians, 1, 2 Timothy, Titus). After a spot of refreshment, I can't forget to "phile" those bills and to thank "HE-who-BREWS" the T, the butler James, of course. Although James might be busy serving the twins and triplets (too bad their parents weren't more creative in naming 1/2 Peter and 1/2/3 John). Thankfully the tech guy, Jude, is very careful about what material he chooses to show (Reveal to) the kids on the big screen in the media room!

¡How powerful this method is! I began to use the memory palace to memorize 2 Timothy 3. I have memorized some chapters of Romans and Ephesians over and over again. I found that the more I memorized, through the traditional mode, the more lines I could remember by just reading them once, and that’s very valuable. However, after a long time without going over it I had a hard time keeping it in my mind. But the memory palace has been a big help because it’s similar to watching a movie. I hope you'll keeping make this videos. Greetings from Argentina God Bless you and your family

Thank you for commenting, Pablo! You’re right - there are a lot of different methods and many of them are effective, but I like how the memory palace allows me to organize my memories for long-term storage.

Congratulations from Brazil, Thanks for this video. God bless you. I'm Welder Dias from Eu Peregrino Channel. I'm memorizing the bible with the repetition method, but yesterday I started the tests with the memory palace. I would like to suggest a video in which you can explain a set of verses in practice, maybe 5 verses in a row? Showing us how you thought these 5 verses. It could be 5 verses that you have already memorized in Philemon or Titus or Philippians. The goal would be a video with more practice than theory.

I guess I’m not fancy enough for a palace! I just have to put in the old fashioned work and memorize the Andy Davis way. Seriously I’m glad this works for some people but I am WAY too left brained for this!! I have no idea how anyone could ever remember anything this way! Have you heard of anyone else like me or do you think this works for everybody?
@BibleMemoryGoal
@BibleMemoryGoal 2 года назад
Haha! I definitely don't think that one method works for everybody, so no worries if this "fancy" method doesn't fit your style. That said, I will say that studies show that using some kind of organization method other than repetition helps most people retain the information for longer, so I would challenge you to continue looking around at different methods to see if anything does stick out to you, Robert.

It’s recommended that you only use a palace once if it’s a memory you want to keep for a long time. Only once that memory is set like cement can you consider reusing it.

Can I reuse locations? I have experimented with memory palaces for academic pursuits, but with limited success. I think I'll give the books of the Bible a go, but it will take some planning to come up with 66 locations that are set out linearly in my 'palace'.

It’s best not to reuse palace locations until you’re absolutely sure you have it in long term memory.

Really enjoyed the video. I'm fairly new to the concept, but I think I've got the idea down. I just have a couple of questions: 1) What do you do about adding new memory palaces after you've used the normal ones (e.g. your house, your office, etc.)? I can't think through having 66 or more memory palaces. Any advice would be appreciated. 2) I would like to memorize all the ESV section headers in the New Testament. For example, I John 1:1-4 - The Word of Life; I John 1:5-10 - Walking in the Light; I John 2:1-6 - Christ Our Advocate; etc. I want to memorize not only the title but the chapter and verse range. I'm have a hard time thinking through how to attach that many numbers to a location in a memory palace. I know memory champions memorize people associated for each number (either 00-100 or 00-1000). Would you recommend that? Thank you for any advice you might have. It's been a desire for a while. I have one book down but it's sheer repetition. I'm hoping for a better way. The other 26 books are looking very daunting right now.
@BibleMemoryGoal
@BibleMemoryGoal 4 месяца назад
The more you use memory palaces, the easier it is for you to start creating them. Don't worry about creating 66 of them right now. Just worry about your next one. As for numbers, if you plan to memorize a lot of numbers, it's definitely worth working through The Major System.

So when placing the different verses throughout a room do you pick one key word from the verse to remember and then make a picture related to that word on the location of that room or do you summarize what the verse is saying and then make a picture of that? I have a dream to create a memory palace where I have every single point of redemptive history in a large building. The goal would be to be able to tell the the entire narrative of scripture from memory. For now I am just trying to memorize Ephesians. Thanks for the video!

Hi. I am from Pakistan and love to watch memory boost training videos. I am really thankful to you for such a nice video you made for us. One question I have which is... I have made only one memory palace having multiple locations which is used to memorize all kinds of data. Now I generaĺly do like I keep the main topic character (or question otherwise) involved at each and every location and make some rediculous story over there by using the key words into images so that at any particlar time if I have to pick any info from that location, there would be no crossing or intersection among the data from other topics that I had memorized before by using the same palace. So want to know your suggestion what should we do at that point so that we can get the exact data of that particular topic from the same location as it takes time to manage such situations for several topics. Thanx

This is probably a strange question, but are you aware of anyone using the Major Memory System using only animals, where each number would represent a different animal? Once you've decided upon your palace, say your Thai home, do you draw it out/map out your home or perhaps your dining room (since you showed that picture), attaching verses? Or does it all remain entirely mental? Or, in the case of your current home, do you walk over and touch each piece of furniture/location as you read and recite the attached verses until you learn them well enough to do it strictly by memory?...I am back to edit after watching several more videos. I guess drawing the map might be better for your jail cell/Philemon since you cannot physically walk through anymore (yay for that!!). Do you draw out a palace like that first, then begin attaching? Another video, you mentioned taking photos of your hotel room -- do you have the photo in front of you as you memorize? Thanks for the advice.
@BibleMemoryGoal
@BibleMemoryGoal Месяц назад
So many different ways to do it! In some cases like the jail cell, I only have the memory to go by. In other cases I write each location down. In yet other palaces I take pictures to put with those notes and create a PowerPoint presentation. You do what is required based on your memory 😉
