Hey, Lucas! That's a great review! I'd just like to add a little trick for clarifying that is faster than the way you taught. If you select the text and press CTRL+ENTER 2 times, it transforms the text into a task. Inside a task, if you type an exclamation mark ( ! ), you'll get a quick menu where you can do various actions regarding that task, for example, if you select the option or type "!move", you'll get the option to move a task to another note, and the remainings of the note won't stay in the jots note. That's what's nice about AmpleNote, there's (almost) always a quicker way to do things, which adds to the learning curve, but it's pretty great!

Great addition! Keyboard shortcuts in Amplenote are really good.

7:19 There's a good reason to keep links in the jots. It gives "creation date" context in the backlinks of your linked content. Seeing the dates that something is referenced on may or may not be important, but for me, this "living notes" feature is primarily why I use Amplenote. For example, if I'm tracking my gardening, I can use the jots and throw in a simple line, "[[Garden]] Yield 30 Tomatoes" and then I can browse the backlinks of the "Garden" note to see, "I got 30 tomatoes on this day" along with all the other notes I tagged "Garden". I coin this idea "living notes" because the note tends to write itself in the backlinks!

I am transitioning from Evernote to Amplenote. In fact, I am using Amplenote as my productivity app, and I spend an hour a day cleaning up the rest of my tasks and projects that are still in Evernote. (You can import your notes from Evernote in a simple, direct fashion. However, if you have special features in your note, such as bold, color fonts, etc., you have to go to that note and modify it for Amplenote.) This video helped me make the move to Amplenote. Keep up the good work.

I really want one place for all my things, but I've been struggling with organizing it in Amplenote. This was incredibly helpful!

Thanks so much Lucas. I really appreciated your perspective with Amplenote. I do find it has a steep learning curve. Shu Omi has done some pretty good tutorials on it. However once I start looking at the help section and blogs there's so much there to take advantage of. YET.. at the time I started using it, there were some pretty important features lacking such as tables. Thankfully they do have a priority matrix for their users to upvote and comment on. Recently, If you copy/paste from excel or sheets or html table structure, you can start using some of the table features with more direct table features being tested in the Founders level at this moment to be added soon. I've started using Amplenote in a variety of ways and got a bit frustrated. Currently I only have time to just continue my current bujo style with it so everything is captured in jots and eventually I extract to a note. Eventually I'll get more organized and as time goes on add in more task management, tagging and so on. I do use a domain to specifically plan my monthly patch lifecycle with my QA audience on the calendar. So there is one area I'm using almost all the features you highlighted here. I could use more domains or the ability to use more reference points to parse what shows up on a calendar. Thanks again and I'm hoping Cody wins his case lol.

Hey Lucas. Nice review. Another little tip for moving tasks to different notes is click into the text on the task and type “!move” you can then type the title of a note and it will bring it up for selection.

Currently I am thinking about moving away from Todist after 8 years now as a Premium user. However I cannot decide yet in between TickTick and Amplenote. What I really like about TickTick is the Habits mode. Is there anything like that (showing streaks...) in Amplenote? What is the video author's opinion about it? And in addition: Would you recommend Amplenote as a full Evernote replacement?

AmpleNote has no Habits view comparable to TickTick. Yes, I think AmpleNote can work as an Evernote replacement.

I have looked at amplenote in some detailed now. I'm sorry to say I find amplenote very couterintuitive. All these commands you have to remember to link things etc. I also get confused between JOTS and NOTES and things appearing in both by default. And the appearance isn't particularly pleasant - for examples - the notes - the summary lists are too detailed - why not just have a one liner as the detail is going to be presented on the right anyway. Same for the JOTS - just too much noise presented. would rather have the date and tags on the right hand side so the main content is not "infected" with this additional information. I want to love it but I can't. Hence my move to TickTick - which is so easy to use even without reading any of the guides! And in Amplenote, things are bit topsy turvy. Projects have to be listed under TAGS not NOTES. Again, counterintuitive to me. Lucas - don't you find it higgledy piggledy compared to TickTick? And don't you think the appearance could be "cleaner" with lots of free space? As for adding support material - you can do that with TickTick too - in immersive view add photos, documents etc.

Thank you. I tried both and I found myself fighting with amplenote to get it to work with my system however TIkTik has every base covered just about, it makes it way easier to fit into your workflow or even build your workflow around. Plus TikTIK is more cost effective and offers a desktop application with widgets.

@@keic6891 I agree that TikTik is way more intuitive. However, it falls short if you also use it for notes along your tasks. Actually, the free plan of Amplenote is excellent, which makes Amplenote more cost effective than TickTick

I agree that amplenote is not the most intuitive. But that is partly because it dares to be different. "notes - the summary lists are too detailed" You can click the 3 dots to change to single line view. Similar for task list, you can make everything one line if you prefer a minimalist view. Which I concur. My advice is take it slow, and do not use jots and calendar at the start. In fact I've decided not to use jots. Just plain notes. And keep things simple, you don't have to have many tags for each subject. You can just search for it. I'm ok with just work and home as tags. Then I use note references to add context like shown on the video. In Tick tick and todoist, todo are first class citizens. In amplenote the note is a first class citizen. Too different approaches but after years of digital note taking, note as a first class citizen makes more sense for my workflow. Tasks always come out naturally when you are writing notes. So it make sense that they lie together with the related context within each note. If you want a list of tasks, go to the task view, and get one nice list, just like tick tick.
