In the van life community a lot of roof vents get Installed. Butyl tape is used between van roof and vent flange, however underneath the flange are ridges , I guess to better bite into the Butyl. Would it make a better seal to apply lap sealant under the vent flange before pressing it down on the Butyl?

My question about Butyl tape is the repair of a seam in a gutter.Caul doesn't seem to hold, maybe it's the expansion> The tape goes on the outside of the gutter, after it is clean and over 40 degrees (not too cold out) correct? thanks I appreciate it.

Butyl tape is too thick for gutter repairs. Gun grade butyl, sealant and rivets will be a better option. Just make sure that your gutters have a big enough lap that the butyl doesn’t squeeze out all over the place. On the inside of the seam I would cover it With standard gutter sealant

hello, I was thinking of also putting some rubber tape or something on top of the z purlin before the steel roof goes down for a thermal break...is this a good idea?

Yes a thermal break is a good idea but we would recommend using an 3/4" foam thermal break instead of rubber. Rubber has a higher conductivity than EPS foam.
