Funnily, why does host have to control captioning facility. It's just make it unusable by needy guests. I requested the host during meeting and he didn't even reply nor enable it. I am deaf and learnt nothing from the meeting class. In Google meet I can enable it myself
I came here to say the same thing. I am not deaf but I like to have the closed captioning on. I was used to having it in Google Meet and can't understand why the host has to control that feature. Why make users feel uncomfortable about asking for it? I tried to ask this question through Zoom but am not offered the opportunity.
What you should note is that auto captioning can be incredibly inaccurate and unreliable. don't assume that it's good enough for your participants. if you want your audience to learn what you're talking about and teaching, perhaps you should use professionally generated captioning. ASSuming that auto-captioning is good enough is not good enough.
Thank you Gary. I will make sure that is noted in my blog and the description, I'd it isn't already. You are right that CC is not always perfect. I do think it is important that people take steps to activate CC instead of doing nothing. There is always room to continue to improve. Thank you for your comment.
Currently it's turned on for everyone or no one. However, if no one else activates it for themselves, because they don't need it, then only the host may know about it.
I really would like to see this work with Spanish and English. Zoom just launched Live Transcription in Foreign languages but unfortunately you need Businss Plus or Enterprise Plus. Wish that were nto the case. I hop[e you get to demo the foreign language closed caption feature.
Hi ... thank you for your tutorial. This is regarding ensuring that 'Live Transcipt' appears in the options bar once you are there in Zoom. You advised setting this up in the profile settings in your account itself. I looked for a long time but I couldn't find anything. Could you give me some specific directions for this? I would really appreciate it.
Hi, Patricia Good Video btw, I have a question Currently Is it possible to enable live transcription if im as participant or not as host? Like in Google Meet i can enable by myself? without requesting to host?
Thank you for this! I've activated CC and Live Transcription on my profile as per your video but no CC/Live Transcription button appear in my Zoom dekstop?
@@PatriciaRegier finished reading! Yes I've activated everything, even the accessibility in my mac setting but still no cc button in my zoom app. It did show up when I started the meeting in a browser though.
@@PatriciaRegier OK I'll check tomorrow. Really thank you for replying so quickly, for taking the time to look at my mac problem, for the very thorough video and blog, everything was very helpful and you are very helpful.. May Allah reward you! Have a great day! 💐💐
your videos are great , i would really appreciate if you could give info about being a participant in a meeting , could there be possibility of sub titles and translations from foreign language to English performed .
You can turn it off, but he/they may/could notice. You can send a message to the person (privately): "Happy you are joining us, in consideration of others who could be distracted by movement on video, I am turning your camera off for now. We can turn on your camera when you are stationary." ....something like that.
Hello! thank you very much for your video! I was able to enable the function, however, when I click on it it asks me who is going to write? The subtitles are not done automatically. should I have a captioning app?
Wow- very useful. Is it possible to set transcription to just create cc for one speaker? My partner is hard of hearing and needs the CC to know what other speakers are saying but doesn't need to see his own voice in the subtitles. Make sense?

On MS Team you can simply activate live captions on the meeting on the device without any other knowing you are doing it. You can even do a presentation on one device while you see the live captions on another device connected to the same meeting. I am not talking of transcripts which I am not interested, but live captions. It's an absolute lifesaver for me (non-native English speaker with hearing loss and tinnitus). I can't understand why on Zoom can't be that simple (if you are host or client and you enable bla bla... What the hell is that? I just want to click start live captions and see live captions like in Team). Last time I checked zoom needed a third party integration, at least is there now a built-in live caption? Literally I am not changing job if the new company is using Zoom (which I see immediately in the interview).
This is now an option on Zoom. I am glad it's a new update that people don't have to request CC anymore. However, everyone should still check that all their Zoom settings are up to date.
@@TammyBlanchette Is it not working for you in Zoom? And you have activated everything? If that is the case I will share a video about how to ask Zoom for help.

Great video tutorial on zoom closed caption Patricia :) I couldn't help but notice your beautiful eyeglasses. Would you mind if ask for the brand/model and the store you bought it from? Thank you.
Closed captions are an accessibility issue and should not be optional for the host. Zoom needs to make the change. I had two meetings today and the host didn't have it turned on. I asked about it in chat and was just disregarded by the host.
I have the same issue as well. Live transcription is only available within a paid subscription for now until fall which will be available for everyone. No specific date yet but I hope pretty soon! However if needed, you can request it using the form here I found through the Zoom website. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSccQQ2W-K8naaltkBIbuv6BfJvisy0NZS2qWIKd0gSMUWGGpQ/viewform
