This video will be 'How to use Switches in Simulation - a Micro-Cap Tutorial'. I'll show how to use 4 different types of switches, and 3 switches will be controlled by voltage, current, or time, while the last switch will be what is referred to as an animated switch. This is where it is controlled by physically pushing the button (or actually double clicking on it). #micro-cap #microcap #microcaptutorial
If you haven't heard - you can get Micro-Cap from Spectrum-Software for free, so help spread the good news that Micro-Cap SPICE Simulation software does not any longer cost $4500, it is now Free. It is one of the best SPICE simulation programs out there. This is a limited time offer, so get your free spice simulation software today.
Spectrum-software site closed but you can find it here, and it is pretty simple and fast to make an account. Once I finally get my website up, I'll have it there as well:

That’s my first exposure to Micro-cap and it looks really helpful. I would love to see a video for getting started with using it. As usual, another awesome video! Thanks!

Ty for the lesson! Micro Cap is a great free resource. I ordered the Kaiweets DMM because it was on sale for prime day. Not bad at all for a meter that was under 30 bucks.

Thanks Tron! Great deals on Kaiweets on Prime day. It made me wonder how I can let people know next year.

Great guide again and easy to understand:-) I have found a few functions I think is not there but could be great: 1) Duplicate one or more lines and components. 2) Group lines and components, to make it easier to work with finished sections 3) Import components into subfolders.
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 3 года назад
Thanks for the great feedback! For your first 2 items, you can select a group and copy and paste, and this does help build circuits faster.
@friedmule5403
@friedmule5403 3 года назад
@@KissAnalog Yes you can copy and past several things at once but as soon you unselect all the items is again separate components and traces. I was thinking of being able to make a selection to a group such that if you select one of the components, the whole group will be selected. Duplicate is a copy-paste function in one click but without using the Clipboard, such that you can have other items in your Clipboard while duplicating a component or a group of components. :-)

It would be useful to have a time controlled normally closed switch (a switch that opens circuit after a certain time value)

Congratulations on the videos! It's helping me to understand Microcap. I have a question: how to make the values on the Y axis appear separately? When I plot a voltage and a current signal at the same time (using the probe transient), only the measurement of one of them appears on the Y-axis.
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 2 года назад
Thank you - and that's a great question. I think I showed that in a couple of my early Micro-Cap tutorials (before this one). There is a selection where you can choose separate Y axis or same. I'll try to remember to show this in more videos. I do try to repeat some of the commands that are so useful.

Really great software. It is possible to make some Signal Integrity with this tool?, like in QUCS :) thanks for this video
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 3 года назад
Thank you! So from what I understand is that QUCS has 3 types of simulations; DC, AC, and Transient analysis. This is much the same as many Simulation tools. QUCS-S version (S stands for SPICE) makes it able to pull in SPICE models. Micro-Cap is SPICE based so I think it can do everything QUCS can do those 3 basic type of simulations, but it can also do them in Probe analysis where you don't have to set up all the measurements and you can do them on the fly by Probing. Plus Micro-Cap can do much more. It has 13 types of analysis that can be chosen besides the filter analysis/design tool, like Worst Case Analysis, Harmonic analysis, and Stability analysis that would be great for SI. Great thing too, is that other powerful simulation tools work similarly, so it is a great learning tool for other powerful tools (so is good on a resume).

Could you explain in a future video the AC analysis in Microcap ? I understand the general concept, but i can.t seem to get how to control that thing (like, how do you tell microcap where in your circuit you wish to sweep the signal, etc.). Thanks

Note that at least for the SPST switch, it does not work correctly in all circuits if the simulation setting is set to the Power Default, under the Global Settings Option!!! If you try to use the switch to switch resistors in and out of parallel, in the control leg of a two transistor constant current source, for example, the circuit Will Not simulate correctly!! If you simply use wires to connect the resistors in parallel it will work correctly. This behavior is in Version 12, the final release. I have not tested it in earlier versions which I will do. I have been using the previous paid versions for the last 15 years, so I will try it in MC11. Keep the simulation option to Standard Default to prevent the issue in MC12!

Hi, I tried to simulate a capacitor charging up directly from a 1.5v battery. I used a time controlled switch to start and stop the charging, however when the switch disconnected the battery, the voltage across the capacitor immediately dropped to zero. This is not what happens with a real battery and capacitor. How do I simulate this. The idea was that I could then connect this charged capacitor to an inductor to simulate an LC tank circuit. Where am I going wrong? Thanks for posting these tutorial videos.
