Exceptionally, you can find the PDF right here : www.theperfectfrench.com/y-and-en Try this sentence to practice : J’ai envoyé des fleurs à mes parents I sent flowers to my parents : I sent them flowers : I sent them some :

Je leurs en ai envoyé .... i also am unsure about using leurs/leurs in DOP-IOP context :( do they change pluriality or stay the same ignoring the sujet's number?
@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane

I am so sorry I didn't see your reply for some reasons! So leur before a verb is always singular. It would take a S in front of a noun so when translated to THEIR I will make a video about that in the next few months :)

It's definitely a case by case area. I shouldn't have include it because I feel it will confuse you. Thankyou ! Well explained for a tricky subject and it helped me a lot to understand. Cependant , j'ai deux questions si vous me le permettez. il s'en occupe de son frere. His brother is a person and en is used for "him", is this just an exception to the general rule, en cannot be used to replace people ? Is it OK to use "J'en ai eu assez " if I have eaten sufficient ?? or is it not good French ?? Merci !
@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane 4 года назад
For "s'occuper de son frère" we could also say "s'occuper de lui", both works. But since s'occuper de" is followed by DE, we use EN. Always look at the abstract part of the sentence but also at the verb, if followed by de or à or simply nothing, "J'en ai eu assez" is correct, everybody will understand, but after a meal we would use the verb "manger" = J'ai mangé assez / J'ai assez mangé / J'en ai assez mangé J'espère que ça aide 🙂

10:26 "J'ai seulement de l'eau" I believe de usually means of or from and when its placed in front of a noun it means some, so why is de used to say I only have water?

Sometimes translation don't match perfectly 😉 I have never heard "I only have some water" but maybe I am wrong

i hope i didn't miss anything in this video but i would like to know one thing. i was watching a movie in french and someone said "qu'est-ce que tu en sais?". what does it mean exactly? and why is it not "qu'est-ce que tu sais?"? can it be translated as "what do you know about this?"?
@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane 2 года назад
That's a very good question! Basically it's between an expression and an unspoken part of the sentence. En replaces a group of words including the preposition DE. So here it would be "savoir DE quoi on parle". If we replace "de quoi on parle" by a pronoun, we have EN. Does it make sense?

Bonjour, pour la phrase " il s'occupe de son frère " (13:50) je pense qu'on doit dire { il s'occupe de lui } pas il en s'occupe . Merci de me réagir 😊
@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane Год назад
Technically yes, and no :D En is often used for people in spoken French.
