You have to know that I haven't sewn in ages. I started watching your channel to get that old hankering back and I must say, it's getting there. After watching this wonderful Sew Along, I am realizing how much I have forgotten....or never new at all!! Thank you so much for this video!

I have the frixion pens, but in marker form. They are brilliant, but yes, there are definitely colors that don't come away as easily. Of course I forget which ones those are right now. But I know one left a white residue on the collar of my dad's shirt when I ironed over it

Hi I love watching you do a tutorial video although that type of dress doesn't look good on me I'm to short and to poofy 😜 I would like your advice I am going to be making a friend a lace dress for her cruise and as I have never had to line something before I'm not to sure what fabric would be best, I don't want anything too stiff as the countries she is visiting are going to be hot. Hope you can give me your expert advice. Many thanks looking forward to part two.
@KittenishBehaviourSian
@KittenishBehaviourSian 6 лет назад
Thank you Julie 😊 With regards to the lace dress lining....you want a natural fabric so it's breathable in the hot countries, cotton lawn is my go to lining for most dresses but you might want something a bit fancier to go under the lace....Truro Fabrics have some great options as do Stone Fabrics and they are both so lovely if you give them a call and explain what you're after. Let me know what you decide on x

Hi Sian, I absolutely love your make so much that I am very tempted to have a go. I am new at sewing and my learning tool is people like yourself who take time out from your busy schedule and make sew-along. With your clear instruction and step by step footage, I am confident to give it a try. I would like to ask the pattern instruction calls for it to be cut on crosswise and I noticed you cut on the single layer which I also want to do as will be following your instructions. When I cut the fabric do I cut on crosswise on a single layer and you also mentioned you will cut the remaining pattern on the reverse. Does that mean you have cut pattern (7 and 7a )once on the right side of the fabric and the other on the wrong side of the fabric. Sorry to be a nuisance as I know you are very busy. Thank you
@KittenishBehaviourSian
@KittenishBehaviourSian 4 года назад
I cut on a single layer because it was a directional print. You do need to make sure that you cut out pairs of patterns pieces so yes, cut one on the right side and one on the wrong side of the fabric 😊

Hi...I am a novice at sewing but was wondering if I have to line this dress, if so could you tell me why. Plus I do not want the pockets so thanks for the tip on how to do that. I am going to practice using fabric from two different bed sheets that I have. The fabric is beautiful quality so I think it will be really pretty. Grey with white print and the contrast I would like to do for the waist is white with grey...so should be great practice and if it works a really nice "house dress". Thanks for any help or advice you can give. Cheers...hope to hear from you. Stay safe.
@KittenishBehaviourSian

You do have to line the bodice of the dress but you can omit the skirt lining if you want to.

Hello Kitten. I have this pattern also. I have the bodice cut out and sewn together now I'm ready to cut out the skirt potion.I am to tape 7 to 7a at the little circles to make the whole skirt front as well as 12 / 12a and 13 /13a. Once they are togethet they form the dress lining as well.Why did you xtend pattern piece 14? I hope I can ask questions as you make this dress even if you explain them in the sew along.
@KittenishBehaviourSian
@KittenishBehaviourSian 6 лет назад
Hey Annie 😊 Yes you want to tape the skirt pieces together along the little dotted lines to create your full skirt panels and skirt lining panels. You do this for pieces 7/7A , 12/12A and 13/13A. I extended the front facing piece because I had also lengthens the bodice along the lengthen and shorten lines provided on the pattern, if you do lengthen or shorten your bodice you will need to make the same adjustment to your facing piece. I'm homing my dress differently to the way the pattern suggests which is why I added extra length on to the facing pieces just to make sure it wouldn't end up to short (I have had this happen before). Hope this helps 😊

Do you think you could get away without lining for a casual summer dress? I have a challis and want to practice (it was $1 fabric but LOVELY) - maybe a workable muslin? It's black and so I am thinking with all the flow - I do not need a lining and it's a great practice but workable toile summer saturday errand dress. I think with all the flow - and the fact that it's black - one would not see through it? Your thoughts! ? THANKS!!
@KittenishBehaviourSian

You could definitely get away with just lining the bodice and not the skirt. I've done that a couple of times 😊

What is the name and mfg. of the interfacing you use? It looks so delicate and wonderful and I would love to use it in the dress I'm making with this pattern and cotton lawn. Thanks!!!!!

The one in this video was a cheap generic that I got from my local fabric store before it closed down. I now get interfacing from Australia. I’ll grab the details for you ….
@KittenishBehaviourSian
@KittenishBehaviourSian 2 года назад
The Australian Interfacing "Tatiana has two weights of interfacing - 30gsm ( the one I sent to you) and 45gsm - these both come in white and black. If anyone is in Adelaide or nearby, go to "Tatiana Light fabric store" 2/155 King William Rd, Unley. From elsewhere - She said it is best to send her a text on 0417 023 409 as she is not always able to answer the phone, or send an email to tatianaroberts@yahoo.com.au The interfacing costs $6 per metre. Very good price for such good quality interfacing. Hope this helps the "peeps" Happy sewing

I'm just getting back into garment making. Why do you trace the pattern rather than use the actual pattern pieces?
@KittenishBehaviourSian
@KittenishBehaviourSian 6 лет назад
I trace my pattern pieces rather than cut the actual pattern because I want to keep the original intact. Patterns are expensive (especially the Indies) and I may change sizes over the years and I'd like to be able to retrace a different size if I need to later on. Also with some patterns I need to do full bust adjustments and other alterations which mean cutting apart the pattern piece and I find it easier to do with sturdier paper than the tissue paper most patterns are printed on 😊 Hope that helps x

@KittenishBehaviourSian 6 лет назад
oh boo 😔 what sort of dresses do you like to wear?
@aimeekluiber
@aimeekluiber 6 лет назад
I used to wear dresses all the time...in the early-mid 90s. Those mostly shapeless sacks we all wore with boots. This past year I have made some cocoon shaped dresses as they leave people guessing "is that her hips or just the dress"! I also love t-shirt maxi dresses. I'm branching out a little bit...just made a Cashmerette Turner dress...which has a waist seam. We'll see how I like it. Maybe I'll try a shirt dress again in the summer.
@KittenishBehaviourSian
@KittenishBehaviourSian 6 лет назад
Let me know how you like the Turner dress? Cashmerette have a fab shirt dress too so that could be worth a try? I know what you mean about not liking certain shapes on yourself though. Could be worth heading to a ready to wear store and trying on a few different shapes to see if anything takes your fancy before you commit to making it for yourself. That's the only trouble with making your own clothes..... you can't "try before you buy" as it were x
